Reversing cameras
Reversing cameras
Work colleague mentioned he'd seen people relying on them when moving out of parking spaces - so not actually looking to see if anything is coming, not something I'd witnessed but worth being aware of I guess.

Re: Reversing cameras
Oh there are loads and loads of people that do that!! I still reverse on mirrors and looking over my shoulders - the camera is a last resort !!! But I see so many people that only use the camera

Driver aids makes drivers lazy, who'd have thunk it.
I prefer to use the camera rather than mirrors, so much easier, and also not frozen in the winter.

The aftermarket camera on my 20 plate Vivaro gives me a better view than the mirrors. I use the mirrors and the camera.

I have to scrape the driver's and passenger windows, so whilst I do that, the windscreen, rear screen and the mirrors all defrost

I use mirrors and camera.
The camera is good for detecting those folk who magically appear behind you when reversing. Better target.

Re: Reversing cameras
I reverse IN to the parking space
Got the full 360 camera thing, love it. You can pinch and drag the car around on the screen, so you have a 3rd person view of the car from any angle. Mrs. D's car has none of it, I always bemoan the fact I have to clockwork park in that
When I worked at Rolls-Royce it was official company policy to reverse park BTW, they figured out people kept getting running over by cars backing out of spaces

Re: Reversing cameras
Wife's Honda has a brilliant reversing camera, much better view than mirrors. So I use it.

Reversing in is fine , but then the boot is in the wrong place for the shopping. So they push their trolleys up the side of your car, scrape scrape bang bang. “What damage? Nuthin to do with me, mate”.

Re: Reversing cameras
Twice recently I've been sat in the car at the supermarket and someone has knocked my car with their door and not even acknowledged me so I dread to think how many times it's happened when I haven't been sat in the car. I was thinking about getting the bodywork touched up but why bother when people don't seem to care anymore. For the record, I've never donked someone's car with my car door - if I think I'm close I will hold the edge of my door with my hand and use that as a cushion.Wossname wrote: Tue Jul 29, 2025 10:46 am Reversing in is fine , but then the boot is in the wrong place for the shopping. I love my reversing camera but still have a look around (it's good exercise for an aging neck) and use my mirrors.

Re: Reversing cameras
I cannot for the life of me understand why this isn't standard operating practice (it is chez Mango), as reversing in to a parking space is so obviously better than the alternative. When you reverse into a (for example) supermarket parking space you don't have to worry about other cars or pedestrians suddenly moving into your target zone; the target zone is clearly defined, obstruction-free and you follow SOP and back the car in. Then when you leave your spot you have full forward visibility and can leave without any fuss or drama.
It should be The Law.

Re: Reversing cameras
Tempting fate now of course, but i've never had someone scrape their trolley down the side of my car or damage my car by opening a door into it.

Re: Reversing cameras
So as a nation we have become so enfeebled that we can't remove the shopping bags from the trolley and carry them to either the side doors or the boot/tailgate of the car?Rockburner wrote: Tue Jul 29, 2025 12:48 pmWossname wrote: Tue Jul 29, 2025 10:46 am Reversing in is fine , but then the boot is in the wrong place for the shopping. How on earth do people manage to get the shopping from the car into their house?
