My brother and his wife were due to come down from London to us in Surrey on Wednesday so they could drop off a present for my 6yr old daughters birthday and xmas gifts for all the kids as we're not seeing them at Christmas. We agreed it would be in the driveway and they wouldn't come into the house. Going to have to text him and tell him not to come at all now. :(

With a son with no immune system after chemo still at home I'm simply not prepared to take the risks.

Which means people will simply go to each other's houses.
Why though ? Why are people not listening ? Not seeing the death and infection figures.

For example, has the 2 people you know now made you think a little bit about your flippancy ?
Because they're people and people are optimistic and believe that they won't catch it or spread it.

That. Three of the six people that I know who got it were firmly of the "it's something that happens to other people/I'm alright Jack" mentality - until they realised the implications of their own diagnosis.

It appears not. They seem to be focusing on age - rather bizarrely - as opposed to vulnerability*. Perhaps it's because old people vote Tory ;)

I'd be lying if I said no, as they were the last people we had round ours. But we're all adults, who made a conscious decision to meet up. As it stands, it was the fact (as far as facts can be verified in this instance) that she works in a school which caused her to catch it.

And why do people not listen? There's no answer to that question and I don't want to drag that argument up again.

Lockdown to some has been totally ignored.
I find this interesting as in my bit of East Suffolk most people seem to be sticking to the rules, if I go to the shops everyone is wearing face masks, most pubs and restaurants are only doing takeaway and most people try to social distance, the sea front here has been a little crowded on nice days, but if you thought it was too busy it's pretty easy to stay away from people.

We have one of the lowest infection rates in the UK, maybe the above is the reason why, but it's going up.
Further up the coast in Aldeburgh and Southwold they'll get an influx of people visiting they're holiday homes, this could be the cause of the rising figures.

I actually think it's 'lockdown fatigue'*. Locking people indoors and keeping them from socialising is what humans do as a punishment to other human beings. So it's dark, cold, miserable and what do people want to do? Be social, talk to each other, have a laugh, be human. Take that away and of course people are going to start wanting to meet up with friends and loved ones.
Look at the stats on this poll. Most people are being sensible, but not adhering to the stringent rules. Tier 3 will make it worse, IMO, as people will want to let their hair down. Now they can't do it in a controlled environment, they'll do it in private homes with no safeguards.Rates will go up, as the Welsh firebreak seemed to evidence. London's bigger and more populous. Not a good omen.

People have caught sight of the light at the end of the tunnel and seem to believe the vaccine is a 'get out jail free' card and are behaving as if it doesn't matter now if they get infected, because there's a cure.

Falling at the last hurdle springs to mind.

Look, if you're not going to bite on my blaming the middle class London types what's the point?
But yes, people are pissed off after a year of this crap, I'm not a social person and it's making me miserable, I imagine anyone who loves social interaction must be really feeling it - I have a theory that people who like social interaction tend to live in cities and those that don't live in less densly populated areas based on that it's easier to socialise in a city, so I think on top of the denser population in a city you also have people you have a desire to socialise - though having travelled on public transport in London I'm doubting my theory, people look at you like you're an axe murderer if you get eye contact with them.

Maybe i'm a bit weird then. LOL. I don't care... i simply don't.

I'll meet up with a mate, in a forest... But as you know, that's my thing.

A bunch of locals are doing our Xmas ride at the weekend on Sat.

"plan is, we'll do the ride and go for beers and food in the gazebo in the crown and horns, we'll get 2 tables of 6 next to eachother"

My reply was

"see you for the ride fellas, but i won't be there for the beers/food"

Now, if it was a proper outside thing like we have at another place, which is an 'open' but 'covered' area, so proper throughput of air and tables socially disatanced, i'd have likely gone... but with this plan, nah, not for me thank you, i'll ride instead.

ISTR the currently approved vaccine needs a working immune system to work with and the Oxford vaccine is the one that doesn't need it, that may have affected how the list was drawn up.

As for me following the rules, yes almost all of the time but teenage kids make life difficult. My daughter got a self isolate notice because she walked home from school with someone who then tested positive.

My feeling is that a full lockdown was a one shot thing as far as the general publics acceptance goes. The one in spring was adhered to; the roads were deserted, it was almost post apocalyptic.

If no one had told me there was lockdown in November I wouldn't have noticed. The roads were as busy as norrmal and people were doing what people do.

The problem with lockdowns is that people beome like dogs on leashes, as soon as it's released the go wild. It's the same leading up to one as well. London will be rammed for the next two days.

People are people, we're (generally) social animals and we'll behave as such.

Subtle, perhaps, but spot on.

We need a total lockdown, no exceptions. Fucking stay home! Alternatively your gran and grandad (and me) will be toast before Easter. We have a vaccine, and in 3 months time we can start to ease off, but now is NOT the time. Cancel fucking Xmas!

FFS, people getting fed up with lockdown, how do you think my parents generation coped with 5 years of war? Grow a pair!

I've been good. It's been hard not seeing family. It's been a bit-hard not seeing mates. It's been boring having days-out restricted, lunch dates curtailed, holidays cancelled.

I'm pretty sure a lot of my peers have carried on paying lip-service interpretation of the rules (and got way with it) because they've had to (work) to survive. It's annoying (for me) because this is what I would have liked to do, chance it a bit - but the missus has asthma and I don't want to be responsible for getting the covids and passing it on.

I know of others in my circle who have lazily fallen down the pit of conspiracy and are basically only behaving when forced to by peer pressure
