I posted the original pic of my brother-in-laws hip on March 25th (look back for the full story). My sister has just sent me the xray of the "fixed" leg.

This gives me hope for my arm if (when !) I fall on it hard enough to break the bone surrounding the implant !!!

Fast healing for your BIL - must have an awesome surgeon as that does look pretty darned good !!

What they can achieve, when working on wobbling bits of body, is incredible.

The surgeon who did my skull and neck work, which involved putting screws into vertebrae, said he had 2mm of bone either side of the screws :shifty:  :wtf:

I'm lucky to live in an area that has loads of stupid sports and so the surgeons/physios etc are pretty damned good !!

But in all honestly, if they are good enough for you to get referred up to for surgery like yours, then they're pretty darned good !!

(The surgeon that did my original replacement told me that if I had the one I have now, I'd have no pain but no movement. But I suspect that is his experience based on the almost complete lack of rehab available in the UK !! )

In 1945, Igor Sikorsky, the brilliant mind behind the development of the modern helicopter, was photographed sitting in one of his own creations—the Sikorsky H-5. This moment captured not only a man with a vision, but also the result of years of engineering, testing, and perseverance. Born in the Russian Empire in 1889, Sikorsky immigrated to the United States after the Russian Revolution and began a lifelong journey in aviation.

The Sikorsky H-5 was one of the early successful helicopters used during and after World War II. It could perform missions that fixed-wing aircraft could not, such as search and rescue, medical evacuation, and supply transport in rough or remote areas. It was an improvement on his earlier models, featuring better stability and carrying capacity.

Sikorsky’s presence in the cockpit of the H-5 symbolized how far helicopter design had come—moving from an idea once considered impossible to a practical, working machine. His work laid the foundation for the helicopters we rely on today, from emergency services to military and civilian transport. This photograph serves as a reminder of how one man’s determination helped take aviation in a whole new direction—straight up.
