Same height, 65kg, 17.5% body fat. Back in 2021 I was 85kg.gremlin wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 2:28 pmAnd this is what baffled both the doc and I. I'm 55, so a prime candidate for HBP, but at the same time I'm 18% body fat, 76kg/176cm and my activity levels are good (4-6 gym workouts a week, both weights and cardio + I own the Hound of the Twatville who demands many walks) and my diet is pretty good, even if Mrs. G does say so herself.Count Steer wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 2:11 pm 'Tis the power of clean living.(Well, that and the fact that the other result of it was I've shed 3st. 150+/90+ was not unknown before I moved down to welterweight.![]()
From the doc's perspective he was all out of suggestions as to what to do, bar medication.
From my perspective I was just a bit fucked off given that I try to remain fit and healthy.
However, when I was working I was still about 65-70kg, worked hard, played hard and did all the stuff like squash, hiking, weight training and still, when I went to sign up for a new gym they abandoned the pre-membership medical assessment at the BP stage and said 'Given your BP we can't continue with the rest of the assessment'
The GP just said 'Gym? Good idea. Let's see if it comes down'.
Just a combination of very stressful job and 'relaxing' a bit too hard.
In the end I kicked work into touch and retired at a tender age. Main thing now (since 2021 when the speak your weight machine said 'Gerroff!') is I limit my alcohol consumption. Went a bit wild in Jan and had a glass of red when we went out for lunch with my SiL. Might have another this weekend.
None of which is going to shrink my prostate or repair the ancient damage to the ol' L4/5 (but clinical Pilates helps with one of those...can't say it has any impact on prostates though
The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

If you run a consistent 140 or above they'll medicate, but I doubt they will on those (enviable) readings!gremlin wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 12:27 pm Continued monitoring my blood pressure following a BUPA check the other week. It's a 2023 BMW 530e.
It's nice enough, but I'm not an estate fan and Enterprise dropped it off with no charge so I guess it's not being as fuel efficient as it could be.
I don't like the re-gen either, I can coast for miles in my Ovlov in eco mode when it disengages the gearbox, the Beemer slows down way too quickly.

Put it in Eco mode! It'll probably float then.
You'll have to come to terms with the emotional repercussions of doing so on your own though.

I was told recently to be careful with eco mode as they don't perform a regen when using that mode and that it can contribute to DPF problems?KungFooBob wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 11:30 amIt's a dirty baby killing non-hybrid derv.Taipan wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 11:04 amIs you Volvo a hybrid or pure oil burner?KungFooBob wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 10:49 am

Re: What have you done today thread?
In two years I've done about 22k miles in my Volvo, 99% of that in eco, using supermarket fuel. It's been fine. It does re-gen, maybe every other tank of fuel, you can tell cos the stop/star is unavailable and it's a teeny bit noiser, it's getting ready for its 3rd fill of adblue.Taipan wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 12:44 pmI was told recently to be careful with eco mode as they don't perform a regen when using that mode and that it can contribute to DPF problems?

Memorial Service, interment of ashes at my church and then two Easter sessions at the local nursery school. Doing some admin stuff now, getting my head around funding for the porch in our 13C church, it is leaking badly. Had someone come to give an assessment on what needs to be done and put that out to tender. Cooking a slow cook beef stew. The wife will do something with the block of polenta we have to enjoy with the beef. I'll probably open a bottle of good red wine to go with the meal. Then I have a Bible Study tonight.

One who forgives an affront fosters friendship, but one who dwells on disputes will alienate a friend.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Nervously I approached the daunting task of fitting a(nother) new keyboard to my macbook after spilling a(nother) drink on it.
Last time it cost me 160 euros and I ended up with a french keyboard. This time I sourced a UK spec keyboard for 16 quid!!. I lined up a youtube instruction video and figured I'd have a go myself.
It all came apart OK.
1/2 way back together I realise I haven't removed all the packaging from the new keyboard. Back into bits again.
3/4 way back together and I realise I've left a cable under the motherboard. Back to bits again.
All back together, no left over screws or parts, keyboard works perfectly*
Trackpad doesn't work
(the clicks do??)
* Of course having put up with the French keyboard for so long, it appears that while I wasn't completely used to it, I am also not completely OK with a UK spec one anymore

First run on the bike this year, a bit earlier than normal but the wife was nagging me as she loves going pillion.
120 miles or so and it got up to 17 C which was quite pleasant.

Been for a ride around West Cornwall. Coverack, Greek, Porthlevan, Marazion, Penzance. Nice weather but very windy in exposed bits. Not really enjoyable on exposed dual carriageways.
Then I ran out of petrol.

The MD and FD are interviewing for a new SD.
I've just seen the latest candidate, skinny jeans and a pair of mince trotters!
WTF, I'd go suited and booted to an interview as a bin man, am I just out of touch?
