OOI why are Teslas so bad? They seem to have kick started the EV market with their usable range compared to the origianl offerings from other manufacturers? I never liked the sparse interiors but VWs seem to have the same utilitarian approach?

They're really good in terms of batteries, motors and controllers. They were the market leader in that segment for a long time - still are in many respects.

The rest of the car is a bit crap. Not terrible, just a bit rubbish with silly build problems. Which you'd expect from a new company with essentially no history of making cars. They focused on the USP, which is now getting a lot less "U".

It's really hard to build a cheap reliable central locking system though, yaknow?

Calizuela apparently now has more chargers than gas/diesel pumps. The siting could use some work, often see lines of Teslas at locations with a half dozen chargers while locations with 20+ chargers remain completely unused.

They've always been very good at making electric powertrains. But since that was their entire USP, it's stood them in good stead. Everyone else is catching up or overtaking now though.

They also have the self drive thing, but AFAIK still only one company has the tech 'properly' homologated in any form and it ain't Tesla.

Plus the CEO is somewhat distracted

Could maybe do with a donut shop between the back of the pub and the charging points eh.

Plus, how big is the pub?
Doubt I've ever seen a pub with more than a 20 x 20 metre parking area?
A spot with a parking atea that big must be able to fit at least 35 americans inside.

My *local* (actually 70 miles away) covers 4 acres including the buildings, patios & parking lot. The place with the chargers is smaller.

My kid would sometimes ask for a ride to school when she was 5-7yo. We lived opposite the school, it was less than 250 yards from the house to the school gate...

EVs are fantatsic for performance, but I cant get my head round silent power. Half the thrill of going fast is the noise. As a town car they a lot more appealing.

You only really notice the silence when you’re pulling away from standstill. As soon as you’re moving there’s no real difference to an ICE car (Ferrari et al excepted).

I'm supposed to be having a drive of a Tesla this weekend. It'll be interesting to see what I think of it, although I'm not keen on the minimalist cab area anyway. It really depends on the car type for me. For a Luxury car, I want smooth and quiet, but for a performance car, I want chassis/suspension feedback, and induction and exhaust noise. My wife has a Mini Cooper SD and I think we could easily swap that for a EV considering its multiple short journeys, but I've more chance of being elected Pope than getting her Mini off of her.

Mate never showed up with the Tesla but I did see him in Tesco where he told me he'd finally sold it after being for sale for 5 months! As he was no longer selling it I had chance of finding out what he honestly thought of it, although he's not exactly the most descriptive of people. He said at first it was odd and quirky but very quick and amusing. Then he found himself using it more than expected. Interesting twist was when I said would you have another, he said no EVs are too hard to sell compared to normal cars, but if I wanted a leccy car go for one of the MG ones as they seem to sell easier than most. My neighbour and her 2 kids all have those MGs, so I guess there must be something good about them?

Stupid little wheels! Looks like roller skate wheels! Exclusive model has leather seats and pan sunroof and car play for those that like it. Not a car you'd wash and stand there gazing in admiration at, but looks very practical as a budget EV as I suppose?
