I'm very impressed with everything I've read about the OnlyCat cat flap - a triumph of human ingenuity and one of the very few examples I've seen of AI genuinely making lives better.

However I won't be buying one, mainly because our cat (Wilko) is so unbelievably crap at catching things. He can just about manage a cabbage white butterfly, or a bird or rodent that was already dead when he chanced upon it, but as for catching something with a pulse, forget it. The cat flap we have is basically door-shaped and sized and controlled by a warm human being (normally me) so any attempts at smuggling in contraband is quickly detected and dealt with. Also, we operate a curfew, so he's not allowed out overnight or even late at night.

It's a low-tech approach, but it works...

SausageTheCat was similar, until we moved from leafy suburbia to the sticks, surrounded by farms and woodland, at which point he became an unmitigated hunter.

We counted 63 dead presents in the first year we lived here.

Edit: Maybe I should get one though. Second biggest thing my two have brought in. First biggest being a fucking great only-just-captured-still-squeaking rat I had to finish off with Baby D's pogo stick...

Fair cop. We live in easy walking distance to Sheffield City centre, so the wildlife is comparatively sparse. He did manage to catch a (live) mouse once, but absent-mindedly mislaid it. In the garden, thankfully.

I think he's more interested in psychotropic substances than catching wildlife...

We asked Penny's daughter and friends (average age 27ish) to name two rescue kittens in Wales. They came up with Popty and Ping....which is modern Welsh (if there be such a thing) for Micro wave.
There again, we inherited the older daughter's cat named Arya.

Had the plumber in today to fit the new water filter and got him to replace the basin sink/plug assembly which continually sticks. He put a dome type in, but said it was only the lesser of the basin plug evils and a good old fashioned plug was the best option. He didnt think much of my water filter either, saying we have one of the cleanest tap waters in the world, but would fit it I wanted him to. I love his continuing honesty!

Took my dog to the vets to have her teeth descaled and polished. The vets asked what was i expecting the outcome of this to be? I said for £400 I'm expecting her to look like Rylan once they're done! She apologised for not explaning herself properly (shes French) and said did I understand its likely some extractions are needed. I'm not happy as I've never known it to end well for small dogs when they loose teeth. So I've asked for evidence that they do need extracting and apparantly they take some gum measurement and do x-rays to show me. So I''m waiting on the phone call and a multiplication of the original bill!

I had that conversation with a vet some years ago. About the same to have Syd's knocked out and give her a scale and polish. I asked how dogs do that in the wild.

'Well they don't', she answered.

'Well let's not bother, then', was my reply.

3 little teeth and one big one out. She showed me when she pushed her teeth how she winced. I said that's because she doesn't like her teeth being pushed and you're lucky you got your fingers back. But I couldn't deny it was fairly obvious discomfort and probably why she hasn't been eating her chewy stick things for a while now.

Syd's has tartar (?) on her teeth but she's fine health wise.

That said, she never got to be the face of Colgate.

On the subject of cats bringing things in, when lived at Penrhiw Felin in Llanafan, we had rabbits, live,dead, adult, babies in any combination from the older cat (Willy). Once we found a baby rabbit in the lounge, paralysed with fright. I would have killed it, but Penny made me let it go 5 minutes later, it was back in with no head. Mice, frogs, small birds would come in and get chucked out for the kite. \i found a dead, complete pole cat under the bathroom mat once.
Since moving to Worle, all they bring in is mud and the neighbour's cat, though I suspect it's t'other way round...Popty and Ping are a bit too dopy to bring anything in.

More like yesterday. Usual stuff, but spent the day doing school governor stuff assessing lessons and getting some insight into the school day. Then in the car to visit daughter, just under 2 hours, so easy enough. Quiet drive back too. Today is pastoral meetings, Tea at the Church and then the school LGB meeting for two hours and then Bible Study.

Had my (now annual, thanks to advancing years) BUPA check up. Surprisingly positive in terms of weight, beer-belly circumference, cholesterol and all the rest. Rest assured that my prostate feels very smooth and uninflamed.

I thought I'd be working nights this morning but had booked to do First Tracks with some mates (I get back to resort in time when I do nights). Then work changed so I was working this afternoon . So, even easier!!









Didn't take any other photos cos I was enjoying the skiing so much

Every now and then on flat pistes I like to do a little bit of straight line with my arms out and go "weeeeeeeeeeeeeee"

Did this today, but also went over a couple of bumps that I know - only today the second one caused me to 'jump' (I usually bend my knees enough to make sure that I don't leave the ground!!) I skied the rest of the piste giggling wildly and loudly

Freaking awesome start to the day, even though work is going to shit yet again But hey, not working today now, so might make a cake!!
