I used to run the gsx with empty handlebars for that drag bike look. No speedo, no switch gear.
Come MOT time, the tester asked me to sound the horn. So I removed the sidepanel and pushed the horn button with a beep. His face was a picture. I used to stuff that much wadding into the exhaust (a Star Racing sidewinder drag exhaust) that for the MOT it was as quiet as a kittens fart. All my mates used to be covered in wadding afterwards when we went out for a blast. I have some great tales to tell about that bike. But this is what biking should be about. Happy memories.
I remember having put the paint onto the bike and finishing the build. I had the bike outside my flat in the sunshine. My mate came around and I found I had run out of milk so off I went to the corner shop for pint. As I came back and turned the corner my heart sunk as the bike stood out like a turd in a swimming pool. WTF have I done I thought. I was gutted that I had done a pink paint job. But pushed on. Anyway, on one of the first times out on the bike I drove through our town and as I sat at the traffic lights noticed a new adult s*x shop had opened, "Tickled Pink". There was me on a big throbbing pink bike outside. I decided to bite the bullet and go in. I told the owner about the bike and asked if he would fancy adding his business details so it could be a rolling advert for his shop, to which he said yes. The bike was had flourescent green graphics professionally added and I was the now happy owner of a sex shop advert bike! You could not make it up! A week or two after finishing the bike I visited a NCC show where they asked if I wanted it in the show? "No thanks", I said. But I still won best streetfighter and got myself a trophy.

Yes. I bought this after having been on the dole and having some spare cash from a new job.
I actually went to buy a Rover V8 powered Mazda B2000 (B2200) pickup, but when I got there it was a project.
Chatting to the sellers friend he mentioned his grandfather who lived down the road had an Allegro Vanden Plas. So I looked at it and did a deal.
If I was transporting anybody around, I would make them sit in the back on a tartan blanket. Nobody was allowed up front with me!
It was a series 2 with a 1750 engine and I think a 5 speed box. All my mates had XR2's and fast hatch backs. No style. And they laughed at me. Tits.
One day I was looking at the GSX thinking that it was low. But could be lower. So I whipped the lockup struts off, chopped some length from them, rewelded them, fitted them and stood back to admire. It was now low.
I went out on it. On my first roundabout (going right) the Star Racing megaphone crunched into the road. From that moment I planned all of my journeys so that I only turned left. It became second nature after a day or two. Try telling that to people who think one click of their suspension adjustment makes any difference.
I know that I have my Busa project on here, but don't be suprised if you see something GSX EFE based coming along soon.

That the one that had the digital speedo and would tell you to fasten your seatbelt. My step dad had one and polishing it every Sunday was his main hobby.

I don't think that the word "digital" had been invented when these cars came along? I believe everything was good old fashioned analogue. You probably still had to wind the clock up in these cars.
