2025, Forum renewal, Host, plan etc..

Post by weeksy »

So we're getting there now and moving into the time when it's time to press the button or not.

I think we can all agree that the last 12 months have been 'interesting'.

However apart from the minor recent issues with the Host move to a better (i think) server and the issues that caused, we've done OK in terms of hosting for the last 12 months.

There has of course been a few other issues with 2 long standing members leaving and all their posts being deleted, but that is somewhat out of my control in some ways.
I know there are some who don't like the way i Admin things and would like different sections dealt with differently to how i do things, but that's how it is, you've got what you've got and i think in the last 4 years i've been consistent and not really changed any thoughts/processes of how i deal with issues. Sometimes i close/lock things, but rarely does it stay closed or deleted longer term.

So i guess the big question is "do we renew and pay for the next year" and that is as much down to you as me.

If you are there (here?) I will be too.

Seriously I would really miss this place. I don't always agree 100% with some decisions but it is your effort that makes this place, so it is right that you call the shots.

I like the way you run this show. Probably agree with 90% of your decisions.

If you need money to carry on, I'll bung some extra into the pot.

Seems to be fairly unanimous. Whilst i don't need money from anyone for this year. The only reason we keep going so easily and without advertising etc is because you DO have to subscribe at times.... Without the Subs, i'd still keep it going for a year, but i doubt it'd be forever.

I've always said this place is YOURS as much as it's mine and as long as you guys fund it, i'll keep running it.

I know Hi-Fi really appreciated all your donations for his work recently and i appreciate you helping out for sure. So we'll stick that as a yes for next year then i guess.. :)

I think the recent outage showed me just how much I'd miss this place if you pulled the plug.

Please don't... :)

As for the departed, you pay the bills, do the admin and keep the show on the road, you make the big decisions. And we back you in that.

Well the good news/bad news is, we're here for another year. I've just paid up the hosting/dns etc for the period until this time in 2026.

thanks to all for the contributions both in terms of content and in terms of subscriptions to pay for this place.

Enjoy the next 12 months kids.

Crikey! They plan ahead don't they? (I assume the message went out to all customers though and lots will be coming up for renewal). 25% is bit rich though.

12 months thinking time?

Nah, when we moved after our tech issues a few months ago it showed me how much hassle can come from host moves etc, so I think we'll stick.

I really like the forum. I know that I am new here, but everybody seems to be friendly and happy to share a bit of banter.
So, I subscibed a day or two back.

I hate with a passion Facebook, which I think killed a lot of forums so even though I am a newbie (and my opinion counts for nothing), this forum has struck a note with me and I want to hang around and enjoy reading peoples post and joining in when I can.
