My favourite response is 'Hello, who are you calling?' If it or they don't know, *click* .
(Not that we get many but the automated dial stuff is getting a bit more frequent).
I get a lot of autodial spam calls that just hang up as soon as I answer. I'm not sure what they get out of it.
The only thing I can think of is that they create a list of numbers that get a response then sell them on to other spammers who save time not dialling unresponsive numbers.
Particularly useful for confirming stuff like ex-directory lines, maybe.
(At our previous place, my wife's employers put a second, business, line in and we didn't get a single spam call on it. We went ex-directory on the home line and that eventually reduced them too so we did the same when we moved. Now, I guess it's just autodial crap that gets through).
