They are a source of much angst in our house too and they aren't even ours! M-i-L has a pair but finds them uncomfortable and says they don't work very well. I keep telling F-i-L to take her and the hearing aids back to specsavers who will change the ear grommet thing to a more comfortable size and set the up so she can hear properly with them. He says I've adjusted them but she doesnt like wearing them. He can't understand that him standing next to her with his booming voice repeatedly saying "hows that" whilst adjusting the volume isn't setting them up properly!

The BBC series 'SAS: Rogue Heroes'.
Silly as a sack full of monkeys, terrible acting and a clunking script. Not sure if Ben Macintyre got paid out for allowing his excellent book being used as the basis for the television series but I'd like to think he did. I mean, I know it does state in the opening credits that 'this is NOT a history lesson', but for fuck's sake...

Scotland is about to grind to a halt due to a bit wind tomorrow. So far in East Lothian they have announced the schools are shutting, Trains are off and no bin men working. You can be sure the buses are next. Stick and warm coat on and get on with it.

Car Insurance.
Every year I think "how can it be so much more expensive than last year?!", but every year, it is.
I guess I'm the real fool for expecting anything else

Mine slowly went up each year and sitting at £450. When renewing my van the DD for the car comes out the wifes account and van and camperbus out min. They fucked up and it all came out the wifes account. Three years in the trot this happened so a quick look on the Meerkats i got the same cover for £160. From now on i shall chop and change each year to get the new customer deals. Creep up to 200 i am fine with but thats my limit.Mr. Dazzle wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2025 6:50 pm Car Insurance.

Well most things about an IC car can be repaired after a modest crash by almost any garage, Lots of places wont touch a crashed EV or hybrid, they are scared of that big bad battery.Count Steer wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2025 7:05 pmWhat's made me goMr. Dazzle wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2025 6:50 pm Car Insurance.

I read you need insulated service tools and different diagnostic equipment. Presumable need to work on rubber flooring if this is the case so more expense and training for an average garage.Cousin Jack wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2025 11:07 pmWell most things about an IC car can be repaired after a modest crash by almost any garage, Lots of places wont touch a crashed EV or hybrid, they are scared of that big bad battery.Count Steer wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2025 7:05 pmWhat's made me goMr. Dazzle wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2025 6:50 pm Car Insurance.

If had a few insurance claims, never had to claim for drivetrain repairs...cause it writes the car off typicallyCousin Jack wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2025 11:07 pm Well most things about an IC car can be repaired after a modest crash by almost any garage, Lots of places wont touch a crashed EV or hybrid, they are scared of that big bad battery.
The last car I had to write off had very mild body damage but a busted gearbox for example. Someone drove into it when it wad parked, dinged the front wing and punched the driveshaft into the gearbox
Leccy motors+gearboxes are also cheaper and simpler than piston engines. Batteries obviously not.
Anything beyond bodywork and new wheels gets expensive very quickly so it probably doesn't matter what propels your car. Insurance companies are just c*nts who use EVs as an excuse

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
The seemingly endless Turkish restaurants opening up everywhere. In my nearest High Street, there were three of them opened up. One has closed but still, two is one too many. Go further afield to the sprawling metropolis that is Petts Wood and you have four, IIRC. Seems you can't go anywhere without having the choice of grill meat, grilled meat or grilled meat. With cracked wheat or rice, sir?
No don't get me wrong, I'm as keen on a kebab as the next man, but there's a limit. Where have all the Indian, Bangladeshi, Italian, tapas, dare I ask...French places gone?

I spent quite a lot of time in Turkey for a few years and never, ever had doner kebab. Sure there were places you could get them but there were lots of other, good options.

Cafe Rouge and Cote Brasserie seem to have driven them all out of business.

Just think of all the sniffy, condescending French waiters who have had to go back to France, no longer able to scoff at your choice of wine, tut at your inability to pronounce the dish nor even skillfully ignore you when trying to get their attention.
(Confession: I actually don't mind Cote Brasserie. I've even been known to eat in the one in Bluewater
