Looking for a pic of the original 1993 Monster (or Il Mostro as it was called then), I came across the following quote by Ducati's Director of Design
“There is no way to realize a good motorcycle if the proportions are wrong.” —Andrea Ferraresi

Because you can't see the engine, just the crankcases, the bike could be (as JB said) a run of the mill Chinese middleweight. Not that there is anything intrinsically wrong with that, but it's a Ducati with a trademark engine configuration and needs to lose the black plastic masquerading as styling.

Do we need to tell designers to play to their strengths?

none of the appeal of the original - and a move into the very bland. It's interesting to see how Audi are making the designs more bland ....

They'll be making it front wheel drive next and only sending power to the rear when the front slips... the bastards.

That and every rider will sit an inch off your rear bumper on the motorway at 70 when you're in traffic.😂

I think that’s possibly the best looking motorcycle ever.

You're wrong, best looking bike ever is the 1983 RD350 LC2, the first YPVS, though the one in my garage is making a strong attempt at proving me wrong.

That standard Monster is OK to me, i've perused them a few times with 'hmmm maybe' thoughts. Especially with the lovely curvy exhausts.

But whether you love it or it's a bit 'ok' one thing it is, is iconic. The Trellis frame, the tank shape, the headlight, it's all Italian chic and 'Ducati' personified. In the same way Ducati dropped the ball with the 749/999 and went back to the iconic lines for the 1098/848 I think the next Monster will go back to it's roots.

If it doesn't they'll lose many many of their fans and buyers.

I'm not massively keen on the new MV naked, but one thing for sure, it's VERY MV and very different to others, it's got soul, it's got style... That's what Ducatis have and Ducatis should be. Otherwise, it's just a Honda/Yam/Suzuki.

Was never really a fan of this era monster. My pref is for the last of the 1100 air cooled.

In the 80/90/00's Ducati = L Twin, Desmo Valves, Belt driven cams and Trellis frames.

The first Panigale did away with belt driven cams
The V4 Multistrada has done away with Desmodronic valves
This Monster has done away with the trellis frame

They'll be making IL4's next.

At least it's still red.

Me three!

As I understood it, the Monster was a parts bin raid? Must have a bin with Italian flair in it then! 8-)

Always wanted one of these but never got round to it. Thought about scratching that itch not too long ago but found out the older m900s are not ULEZ compliant. If my numbers ever roll in and i have large garage housing a collection, one of those will be in there...

I agree. I may not be entirely impartial though
