My son is married to an American girl and I was talking to her parents about it. They get basic coverage through work but top up the insurance to the tune of $25k pa. Even then each claim brings massive stress as claims are denied and appealed. A simple blood test can be $2k and waiting times can be a lot longer than we’d imagine.
I’m sure there’s better models than the NHS but they’re not in the US.
I'm classified as 100% disabled. I pay nothing for health care, I have no co=pay & prescriptions are free. My only out of pocket expense is the gas to drive to the hospital etc & I could even claim the cost of that back on my taxes (altho I don't, because last year my income tax bill was $0)
I can also get free dental treatment, but the only places that offer that are fucking butchers, so I pay $60/month for private dental insurance.
With that said, it took me six fucking years to get approved for health insurance... & it happened under Trump.
If it took 6 years, then presumably you initially applied under Obama's "regime"? (Given that US presidents get 4 year terms)
I find it unlikely that whatever rules were in place when you applied were changed too drastically during that application process, and that any changes were applied to applications in process, the wheels of bureaucracy turn at glacial pace after all. (I could be wrong)
The ACA took was signed into law March 23, 2010. 'It was set to have a 4+ year roll out. It wasn't fully implemented until January 1, 2014
2010 A new Patient's Bill of Rights goes into effect, protecting consumers from the worst abuses of the insurance industry. Cost-free preventative services begin for many Americans.
2011 people with Medicare could get key preventative services for free and also receive a 50% discount on brand-name drugs in the Medicare "donut hole."
2012 Accountable care organizations and other programs help doctors and health care providers deliver better care.
2013, open enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace begins October 1.
2014 All Americans will have access to affordable health insurance options. The marketplace allows individuals and s all businesses to compare health plans on a level playing field. Middle- and low-income families will get tax credits that cover a significant portion of the cost of coverage. The Medicaid program will be expanded to cover more low-income Americans. All together, these reforms mean that millions of people who were previously uninsured will gain coverage from the Affordable Care Act.

Given the above, it's rather unclear when ZRX first signed up. Trump's initial desire was to repeal the ACA. Likewise for Republicans in the Congress. Until they found out just how popular it was. Of note is that there are still many citizens benefitting from the ACA that think ObamaCare is a bad thing. It's always rather amusing to see their reaction when they learn that ObamaCare
IS the ACA.
Looking into the changes under Trump, I can't locate anything that specifically states it was changed to make signing on easier.
In 2013 Nevada was working through significant problems with their marketplace websites that were hampering enrollment.
