Busy one. Two carols services, 580 in the big church and 190 in the small one. Then off to visit a 91 year old lady to celebrate the Holy Communion with her. Met with my spiritual director for a chat/pray/think. Cooked dinner for the wife and son. Going to have a bit of Kraken Coffee rum just now, lovely stuff that. Been dealing with lots of emails and messages. Time to clock off for a bit.

Just back in from doing the xmas food shop :angry-cussingblack:
On balance it's probably a good thing that carrying hand guns is illegal in this country, and I'm very lucky that the wife drove meaning I didn't have access to my cheater bar.

Today I've been pondering the 'Gremlinette paradox'. I miss her and she calls regularly when she's away at uni and prior to any visits proposes things we can do and enjoy 'Dad/Daughter' time.

She comes home and then disappears round friends for days on end. Any plans that were made get delayed, postponed or just kicked over the horizon. It actually makes me a bit sad and more than a bit pissed off, more for Mrs. G who gets it more than me.

So I miss her, look forward to spending time with her, but then get arsey as she can't be bothered to come home as I assume there's a better offer elsewhere.

Maybe it's a teenage thoughtless thing, notwithstanding that she's now 20.

Popular folk suffer this dilemma.

When middle son visits from Oz,he is pulled in every direction by those seeking his company,as a result I may see very little of him. For his part, this leaves him feeling guilty and he blames himself for not managing his time more efficiently. He often leaves for Oz feeling frustrated, rather than rested and glad he met with folk.

I try to assure him,it's not possible to cram everything in and there is no definite right or wrong way of dividing his time, just enjoy and go with the flow.

Maybe just be thankful others are glad to see your daughter? It's a good sign.

Yeah, I kind of get that, but it seems that both me and Mrs. G are dropped for a day of staying in bed around her mate's house watching TikToks.

Looks like our plans of getting a pedicure and toes done together have been unilaterally cancelled. :x

Like last night at midnight, ringing the doorbell and knocking, making the dog go mental, with me coming downstairs to open the door and getting a 'Forgot my key...' as she swept past (prior to going out again around 1am, waking me up again by slamming the front door)?

Had a 'mare of a day so far.

Went to get in Mrs CJs car and drivers door won't open. Somehow Mrs CJ has managed to lock the seat belt buckling the door. Tried every which way but it has defeated me.

OK, take my car, notice bird crap on the rear bumper. Except it's not, some sod has bumped into it, deforming the plastic and taking off a big flake of paint.

Waiting for No 3 now.

On a serious note, does a day with her pals help her depression?

I don't think a day swiping TikToks and doing nothing all day does anybody any favours on the mental health front. I suspect we in the developed world have unwittingly allowed our kids to do irreparable harm to themselves with social media.

As an aside to this, I learned the other day that our friend's daughter is buying her one year-old an iPad for Christmas, as the two year-old screams the house down when the baby has his and is only quiet when engrossed watching a screen. I find this terrifying in terms of their development into functioning humans.

My day has been a bit of a pisser too. First up the drains were blocked. I have to move the cars and camper to get at the drain cover only to find theyre clear there? So put the vehicles back and get at the access pipe to where the soil pipe come sout of the house and yup its blocked there. Fortunately cleared in minutes.

When i was moving the cars my car gave a low battery warning. It did start so I took it for a run and that all seems good and is probably just because it doesn't get used much. So two minor problems easily sorted.

Then my daughter rings and drops the bombshell that she is stilll coming for Xmas but is now going home boxing day as her other halfs step grandad is having everyone over as he hasn't been well. I'm both gutted and annoyed by this as we don't see her that often and she knew how much we were looking forward to having here fofr a couple of days. My wife is very upset by this so now i'm even more annoyed. I'm not going to say anytghing for a day or two but then i'll call her and have a chat about it. Ho hum...

A couple of years ago, during Covid, if you had family around during Christmas, the police would turn up and forcibly remove them.

I’m not sure if that’s still a service they offer or not.

It sounds like some rather want the police to come and handcuff the family to the sofa.

Dump Run including negotiating entry with "Tip Taliban". Ready to fill the space by the side of the house with Christmas packaging now.

I've just spent an hour outside in crappy weather washing the mud from my Mountain Bike.
Yesterday I met a good friend for a ride around Rivington, the first time in 22 months that I've rode the Mountain Bike.I used to spend most saturday's at Rivi on the MTB so it was nice to get back out there.

Now it's time for an hour on Zwift...
