Can I update to windows 10?
I have an HP 5008 mt. It is running windows 7, so almost nothing (amaon prime, netflix) is compatible.
It has 4 gb of memory, a 3.2 gig processor and a solid state hard drive. I also have the original licence number and key.
Is it likely to cope with Windows 10?

Re: Can I update to windows 10?
It should upgrade and run ok, as long as it's got a compatible CPU, windows 10 won't run on older (gen 2 core and older) intel processors.

Re: Can I update to windows 10?
And while I am at it, the smart Panasonic tv that the exiting householder left tells me it doesn't recognise my network. It is connected via a cable to the ethernet bank on the rear of the router. I have gone to a factory reset on the tv two or three times, but still says the same. Usually demands that i get the latest update, says it has the latest and then says to check for the latest update again.....any ideas that don't involve a new tv?

I don't think it's a supported CPU.
When I say won't run, what I really mean is it isn't supported, so stuff like the chipset drivers won't exist for Win 10. It might run, but not as well as it could.

It will also struggle with 4Gb of RAM, 8Gb is probably a recommended minimum.

Good grief. My wife's desktop has 8 Gb of Ram and Win 10 takes an age to boot on that.

Trash Windows and Install the latest Linux Mint version. It'll fly, and should be Netflix and Amazon Prime compatible.

Re: Can I update to windows 10?
I was trying to resist, but yes: since I switched both work and personal laptops to Ubuntu (which is what Mint is underneath),the only issues I've had have been because I'm an inveterate tinkerer: for normal usage there have been very few issues.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 11:46 amTrash Windows and Install the latest Linux Mint version. Yes, it's taken a decade or two, but Ubuntu (and derivatives) can now be recommended for mainstream usage. And it does appeal to the 'inveterate tinkerer' in me, as well...Rockburner wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 12:05 pmI was trying to resist, but yes: since I switched both work and personal laptops to Ubuntu (which is what Mint is underneath),the only issues I've had have been because I'm an inveterate tinkerer: for normal usage there have been very few issues.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 11:46 amTrash Windows and Install the latest Linux Mint version.
