I saw/heard one of the early versions (that they put on the 1200GS) cry 'enough!' on a very new 1200GS on a Flash tour. It sounded like a washing machine full of marbles. The bloke had been caning it when it was probably still in the 'treat gently' stage of ownership, but still...

(The BMW recovery and get the rider home from France was pretty good though :D ).

Never had any problems with my 4.

I rode all my GSXR1000s home from the shop. Then on track next day.
Under warranty so I didn't give a shit.

Talking to a GS owner at work today, He reckons its water getting in and causing corrosion. They drilled a small hole underneath to let the water out. 🤷‍♂️

BMW have always struck me as a small step up from KTM, but with better customer service and somehow a reputation for reliability that's about 40 years outdated. You know if you read a mag/internet article somewhere they'll mention BMWs solid reliability, something that's completely out of kilter with anything you read from actual owners. It's quite a trick.

What a palava that was...earlier this morning rung up motorrad Shrewsbury. Got through to a young male wokey sort who put me through to an unanswered line. 20 minutes later, i get through to a young lady who said she'd spoken to the bike man and he'd ring me back shortly...oh no he didn't.

3 hours later I ring number off @KungFooBob letter, (maybe UK HQ ). can't find mine but definitely had one earlier this year. Very nice lady says she'll ring Shrewsbury and hold the line. Few minutes later and the booking department have got me in for Jan 7th, needing bike all day.

Mines a 2013, first of the WC so it's 13 years old with 31k on clock. It's a corrosion issue so age is more important than mileage in my book. 🤷🏻‍♂️ My mate has the last of the AC bikes, an adventure on a 13 plate. He's had issues with his, but I'm sure his is a K25 and not included in recall, shaft on other side. His final drive oil was like milk yesterday and he only changed it last year.

Will see what Jan 7th brings. 👍

What's it actually going in for Dodger?

The drilling of the cardan and the valve fittings, or the replacement of the shaft because you're at 50,000km?

I think they'll replace shaft, but not confirmed in conversation. At slow speed I can feel a faint "drive knock" iykwim. It's a driveshaft recall so they should make good. It's a 2013 bike so I'd imagine it's corroded a bit.

Mines not had the drain valve, the letter doesn't mention the drain valve and the government recall check only mentions fork sliders for my 2016.

I'm only on 20k miles so I'm not overly concerned.

It's classed as a "technical enhancement" so won't show on government recall site. Bmw kind of say, work involved will depend on condition, mileage, age.

All bikes get valve drain plug, some may get new shaft if needed.

That's what they termed the replacement of my leaking fuel pump seal as, I guess by doing this BMW limit the stats of their recalls...
