This is it in a nut shell. Great copy guitar players but very few original composers of note (pardon the pun)Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 7:19 amMaybe not Oasis, but some form of Gallagher brother...probably.
I saw Muse at the national bowl last year, supported by 2 'proper bands': The Warning and Royal Blood. I still think of the latter as a new band, but they've been going 10 years
It's super weird, there are loads of 9 year old whizz kids on Insta now playing guitar like they're possessed by the ghost of Hendrix, yet noone seems to be able to actually put a tune together. Writing and playing are two very different things I guess.
Bands, groups, music, inspirational, aspirational, what happened ?

I watched a YouTube video with Rick Beato interviewing Steve Lukether (sic), him off of Toto and a million different session guitar recordings (including the cool riff from "Beat it" BTW, which was not Eddie Van Halen like everyone says, EVH only did the solo).
He was saying when he started out in the 60s everyone was amazed 'cause he could play 7 chords and do vibrato, whereas now you have to be playing virtuoso solos on YouTube to even get noticed
Still...he wrote some banging riffs that get stuck in your head, which is way harder IMO.

On a completely different tack - but same subject, it you want to hear from the unkowns on some famous records:
