Only just got around to reading this. I have no idea who the author is (didn't look, could be someone I've read loads for all I know), but I would say they hit the nail firmly and squarely on the head.

So how long ago did they air *that* advert, the one that's killed sales?

I think the biggest problem with Jaguar is that they haven't made cars that people want to buy for ages.

X-Type - Awful and suffered from the "Jagdeo" comparison.

XKR - Posh Capri-esque rotbox

XJ -Look like Arfur Daley.

XJR - Look like an Essex Boy

S-Type - look like Joey Boswell or Inspector Morse as you wait for the AA to turn up.

XF - Wannabe Lexus.

XJ - Wannabe 5 series

XE - Wannabe C Class

F-Type - Nice

F-Pace - Posh Tuscon

They're not bad, just that everyone else is better. A lot better.

You forgot the I-Pace.

Which was quick to market to compete against Tesla, with great performance and decent leccy range.

Fucking awful reliability tho'

Sales are slightly up at the end there. Must be that pervy advert.

Had one of these when I was forced to take a company car and chose it purely because my cousin worked on it.

I took it on a euro trip as soon as it was run in and it was brilliant*

Also well aware that a Mondeo would have performed just as well, not that that's a criticism.

*I saw a Ferrari GTO parked up in a lay-by so I, naturally, stopped to have a look. One of the blokes from the GTO said the X-Type "looked well in black".

The reactionary old giffers must have predicted the excess wokery in about 2019 and launched a pre emptive retaliation by deciding to buy a 12 year old Toyota Avensis instead.

Looking on the bright side, those Toyotas are still running just fine and have kept 200,000 knackered Jags out of landfill.

The Mondeo of that era, the Mk3, wasn't half the car the older ones were. The Jag suffered with pretty much all the ills that that generation of mondeo suffered from, clutches, flywheels etc. Bizarrely the X Type could be ordered with a 2.1 V6 and in that form was slower than the 2.0 TDCi one. I nearly bought one because they were ridiculously cheap at one point.

My 'rents had a couple of brand new X-Types. They were decent enough. They started buying new XFs instead when they got a bigger caravan which needed a heavier car.

They had a new F-Type for a while. 2 jags!

Sold that because it was more expensive than the MX5 they could have instead.

I wonder why young people don't think Jaguar is a cool brand. :hmmm:

I had a go in an iPace just after they came out. Some engineers from JLR came to visit us at the office, including a former colleague of mine in his company iPace. I said I liked his car, to whcih his reply was "take it for a spin" (fleet cars are typically insured for any driver).

At the time there was a road leading up to our office we'd do the tonne challenge on, target being to hit 100mph between the roundabout and the office gates. It was possible to do it in my 320d but you needed to get a good exit off the previous roundabout.

I did it in the iPace from a standing start :D

Really wanted to buy one, couldn't afford it.

My neighbours had an Audi Q7 and a Range Rover 3.0TDi. Rangey has been good but the Audi a nightmare so he chopped it in for a iPace. Rangey rarely turns a wheel these days as they both fight over using the iPace instead!

I bought one because it was ridiculously cheap and I needed a car quickly. It was a 2.1 V6 which was noticeably slower than the BMW318 that it replaced, and noticeably thirstier too. It never let me down in the 12 months I owned it.

My brother in law bought an iPace when they first came out. Nice enough car but not very reliable. It never had antwhere near the advertised range, and it used to lose charge from the battery when it was left standing, which was a bit of a problem because he was in the merchant navy and was regularly away at sea for 3 or 4 weeks at a time. He still has it and the issues seem to have been sorted after a number of trips to the dealers

Is the Rangey sat there with five miles left in the tank waiting for the next driver to fill it up?

Pedestrian impact rules killed off the world of crazy headlights and we're all poorer for it.

Well, the pedestrians aren't I suppose.
