Do I understand it correctly that the black stuff is cool with the hip, young things?

Only ever drunk it out of choice a few weeks ago in The Coach and Horses near Aldwych. Place is renowned for it and when I went in it the only pint really being sold, so I thought I'd give it a go.
What a revelation. Creamy and quite light. I was informed that the storage and gas used is key to the top condition. One way to tell a good pint is to see the head 'proud' of the top of the glass.
I think it just proves that most pubs in this country can't keep Guinness well.
Guinness is pressurised in its own keg with a nitrogen mix and isn't just carbonated like a lot of other beers. So the pub cant really mess it up, or keep it wrong, which is why it should be consistent, but there is an art to pouring it right, but it doesn't need the double pour like it did years ago.

I like a Guinness every now and again and drank it all weekend in Dublin when I was there. I think I got used to it and it didn't feel as heavy as it does here. Dont believe all that in Ireland its made with water from the River Liffey cos its not, its ad with water from the wicklow mountains!

Oh deary me, they can and they do! Nowadays I think they use a separate tank of nitrogen/carbon dioxide mix but I heard that they used to be pre/pressurised and one pub put carbon dioxide top pressure on as well.
Got to have the right pressure and the right faucet etc.

My local in Newcastle consistently served an awful pint of Guinness...but all the other beers were S&N and pretty dire too. I actually joined CAMRA and went on expeditions to find a decent pint - of anything! (All the local clubs served Federation beers...and that wasn't fit to wash your whippet in either :( ).

I always thought that was the point of Guinness being in a pressurised keg, so that it couldn't be messed up. But, it can certainly be poured wrong! Surprised they've changed how its pressurised? My Son used to work the bar work in a footie club and the Irish punters soon taught him how to pour one to make sure the head was the right thickness and he mastered the shamrock too!

So did I. (I was even told the gas in the keg was in a membrane to stop it dissolving into the beer while In the keg but that may be myth and legend from the 70s - which was when I was in Newcastle).

I only found out about the gas tanks when I Googled.

I’ve had my bones scanned - apparently all ok. Athough there were raised eyebrows about the two broken/healed vertebrae 🤣🤣. None raised about the shoulder which is far more impressive 🤣🤣🤣

Then lunch with my favourite instructor - someone else came along and damn but they talk faster together 🤣🤣

Then went to a Skoda dealer on the off chance I could get a test drive. Couldn’t as everyone was busy. So I’ll go to my local one soon. Am now considering a different model. Maybe. Need to check when I’m home just how much bigger the other one is!! But having got back to driving the little Fiat 500 I think maybe something less like a small roller skate would be better. Although TBF the Fabia is a decent size but a bit low maybe!!

Just waiting a bit for a drink with the favourite instructor and then I get to take the small roller skate home 🤣🤣🤣🤣

AND - best thing of the day. The Lidl at Montmelian still had the cheap crunchy cheddar 🎉🎉🎉🎉 (it’s definitely the best thing as my friend is going to explain “it’s complicated “ in a bit 🙄🙄🙄)

Re crunchy cheddar, this is what I was talking about. None of those are MSG though are they?
Wikipedia wrote:Cheese crystals from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cheese crystals are whitish, semi-solid to solid, slightly crunchy to gritty crystalline spots, granules, and aggregates that can form on the surface and inside of cheese.[1][2][3] Cheese crystals are characteristic of many long-aged hard cheeses.[citation needed]

Hard cheeses where cheese crystals are common and valued include comté, aged cheddar, grana cheeses like Parmesan, Grana Padano, and pecorino romano, as well as old gouda. However, in some cheeses, like industrial cheddar, they are considered a production defect.[citation needed]

Cheese crystals can consist of different substances. Most commonly found are calcium lactate crystals, especially on younger cheese, on the surface, and on cheddar. Depending on the cheese and its age, these crystals can consist of either or both enantiomers.[1] For grana padano, grainy amino acid crystals inside the cheese consisting mainly of tyrosine and of leucine and isoleucine have been reported.[1][3] In general, any substance that has a low solubility in water and a tendency to crystallize could form crystals as the cheese dries out during aging

Turned bits of railway off and back on again last night, did some HV switching which as it involves one of our adjacent control rooms means the feeding model cannot cope with what were doing and the system either looks like we're in parallel with two separate DNO supplies when we're not or that we're about to "drop" a large chunk of our network with no electricity once we've completed the switching. We've asked the project for our new SCADA to put a fix in to avoid this confusion and stopping botty clenching moments.

Slept.

Getting ready for another 12hr night shift, hopefully the weather will keep the troubled souls at home.

Tuesday evening I made 18 snorker rolls... I put 10 in the freezer yesterday.. & had the last unfrozen one for breakfast this morning, so I've eaten 8 snorker rolls since about 8pm Tuesday.

Date evening went well. Better than I’d expected. Lots of chat. Lots in common in how we want to live life and no need to be extra serious too fast or too much ‘in each others pockets’. The “it’s complicated” wasn’t as bad as I worried , and he’d been worried about telling me! It it’s totally lovable with! 😊

Got home at midnight and grinning like a loon 😁😁😊😊😊

Not gonna see much of each other for the next few months with work and distance but we’re both ok with that - which is great (I have a massive fear of too serious too fast and getting claustrophobic!! 🤣🤣🤣)

Hopefully a gap in the snow tomorrow and Saturday for a bit of ski touring to make the last few days before work as good as today!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Not today, but yesterday.

Baby Ds (7) first ever snowboard lesson. Took her for a private 1hr lesson to see how she likes it, she's been wanting to try snowboarding for ages but you have to be 7 for some reason. Skiers can start at 3.

She loved it  We might sign her up for the kids club where they go every Sunday morning and in half term. See if she still likes the idea after a day or two to reflect.

I of course love Snowboarding but haven't been for ages, because of Baby D. Times might be changing

IIRC (I haven't skiied/boarded for about 20 years*), it was always held as true that learning to board was relatively easy for a skiier, but learning to ski was incredibly hard for a boarder. Something about the different ways that you balance, use your legs/knees etc. Don't know if it's still held as true, or if it's just an urban myth.

* With my dodgy knee I've never had full strength so I can do only a day, maybe 2 of skiing before it's mullered and I can barely walk, which means week-long trips are a waste of time and money.

Having failed to find a roofer who wasn't a travelling man, my Son informs me he knows someone who is great, everyone uses him and is reliable and he'll get him to pop round and quote me. So we arranged for him to come round this morning and he did and turned up early and will do the job before Xmas as I'm Lukes dad. He'll also sort out the chimmney stacks that need rendering but it'll need scaffolding put up, so he'll get the scaffolder he uses to ring me. Should all be sorted soon...

I remember when I was the guy with all the contacts! Now I have to go through my Son to get anything done. :o :hmmm: The child becomes the parent...

I've been grinning like a loon all day! Pretty sure I have a Readybrek glow as well!! Little bonuses of getting just the most awesome text first thing in the morning!!

Went to the valley, saw the bank (helped a little, but not much till I've actually got the signed papers for the apartment sale, picked up some stuff for a mate in the DIY store and then went to my mate's shop for coffee, chat and a pasty!!

Anyway, now about to take the roller skate car to the garage and move some boxes out of it. The rest on Sunday!! Cos I'm crossing everything that there's a bit of sunshine tomorrow so I can go ski :D :D :D

I've just made a Lasagna I've no intention of eating this evening.

It's the most grown-up I've ever felt.
