I’m in Sainsbury’s tomorrow so that will do nicely. ThanksMrLongbeard wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 6:47 pm https://www.jurawhisky.com/en/all-whisk ... rbon-cask/

It's a little different, not peaty at all, which is why I like it every once in a while.
I was going to suggest the English Whisky Company, but they've changed their naming system so I no longer know what's what with them

I might try it but it’s for my sisters other half. He’s a scotch drinker and will be with us over Xmas so I thoughts I’d best get a bottle in.

Occasionally Laphroaig is on special for around £30. Worth getting as a decent single malt. Nectar Card makes it £25.
Also this is excellent! https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/pro ... hisky-70cl
Taliskers is easy drinking and really lovely to enjoy, £28 with Nectar card.

Been told by someone better than me that, Aldi Glen Marnoch Islay single malt, in a box, is very good and only £17.99.

What do you prefer, the speyside or the peaty west coast flavour?
Re: Recommend me a scotch for under £30?
Lots of recommendations for the peaty malts which I dislike, I prefer the Highland and Speyside malts
Old Pultney is one of my favourites
I've been drinking Auchentoshan this evening, it's very nice too

Can’t think I have ever had a single malt I wouldn’t drink again. They’re all good. Why not start a collection.

I don’t drink it. I’ve got a house guest over Xmas who does drink neat scotch, so although I don’t think he’s any sort of connoisseur, I wanted to get something half decent for him.

Doh!
Just get something in a fancy looking bottle with a name nobody will recognise and tell him it was the most highly recommended one.
It's all about spin. I drink mine neat but always serve in a wet glass. Swill with water, tip it out. It releases the aroma...

Tamnavulin could be a good shout then. Nothing massively special but it’s a nice smooth speyside and it’s often on offer at Tesco.

I can't stand the peaty Islay stuff. I wouldn't thank you for a bottle of Laphroaig.
I think you really can't go wrong with a 10 year old Glenmorangie.

Whereas I love it. . Anything smoke related though and I'm there.
I bought my Dad some Suntory Toki for Christmas a few years ago, he's since bought himself a few bottles more.

Re: Recommend me a scotch for under £30?
I've had the Aldi Speyside as well as the the Islay single malt, not had the Highland cos I'm not as keen on those anyway.
Both pretty damn good actually and would put the Islay alongside Taliskar flavourwise, not as peaty medicinal as Laphroig.
I'll not buy the full on expensive ones for myself while I can get them.
For a gift though, well depends on who the gift is for dunnit.
If the orange one has his way with import tarrifs expect the big distilleries to cut prices to sell more in the UK as time goes on. Possibly through more supermarket brands so they don't ruin their exclusive branding.
