Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
I had 30 years of the NHS saying "its IBS, live with it" before I self diagnosed gluten intolerance + A1 milk protein intolerance (I was so happy to find A2 milk and then the bastards stopped selling it). The weeks of my life I've lost on the toilet because of this..........
I am also on the FODMAP spectrum being unable to tolerate anything in the pea family, onion family and certain sports gels/drinks because of the sugars they use. Also Cherrys and almonds!
I have reactions to artificial/fake sugars so I was well pissed off when the sugar tax came in and all the squashes and high juices I could drink suddenly become unusable.
This makes eating out a pain and I have been we'll and truly reamed out when manufacturers change the recipe of something I could eat and I haven't checked.
I'm not allergic to anything but unfortunately after I went cold turkey on gluten and finally got an appointment, the test for coeliac means eating gluten for six weeks to trigger the necessary body response for them to test it! That was a grim 6 weeks. The NHS gluten/coeliac test is a cheap yes or no result rather than scaled. One of my brothers with similar symptoms paid for a private test which is expensive but tests a wide variety of intolerances and barring almonds and Cherrys we pretty have much the same intolerances.
I should really have shares in Immodium

And that (in a nutshell ) is exactly what the problem is!Cousin Jack wrote: βSat Nov 30, 2024 9:33 am Allergies are weird.
Far too many people claim allergies to stuff they just dislike and it devalues the word for those, like her, who have a real life-threatening allergy.
Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
Do you find there are any side effects from long term immodium / loperamide use?
I've been trying to work out what the problem is for 3 years, the NHS has done some tests but reached no conclusions (apart from trying to give statins every time FFS).
I'm not really happy chugging immodium all the time, I swear it reduces my libido, or maybe it's just the belly ache that puts me off.

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
I'm not on Imodium constantly, so haven't noticed any side effects. I just use it for flare ups or if I'm going out and can't be sure what will be put in front of me. The really effective drug for me is codeine BUT that makes me badly paranoid if I take it for more than a few days so tend to steer well clear of that.Ian wrote: βSat Nov 30, 2024 3:23 pmDo you find there are any side effects from long term immodium / loperamide use?

Wifey is veggie but has demolished a family bag of jamon crisps tonight. One of the bars in town gives pork scratchings with a drink, she'll eat those as well, otherwise she sticks to her veggie regime.

I'm lactose intolerant. Developed it, somehow, after 60+ years of scoffing cheese
But now? I describe it as like a summer storm. There's the rumbles, then the wind picks up. Finally the downpour
You might say it gives me a good run for the money.

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
My issue in the chalet is like the pretend coeliacs - if you say you require a completely different menu for a week because of something you don't eat, that's fine. That's what we do. But don't then sit down to breakfast and say, 'Oh actually, today I'd like the same as them because I do eat bacon' - FFS the budget is for x number of veggies and x number of meat eaters for the week! I don't actually have any bacon available for fake veggies!! LOL LOLPirahna wrote: βSat Nov 30, 2024 9:50 pmWifey is veggie but has demolished a family bag of jamon crisps tonight. I'm totally fine with people changing how they eat/are due to bacon (I can't imagine a life without bacon TBF!!) but not when I have to cook a completely different menu for 6 days but actually, bacon is fine

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
Normally I'd feel pretty good about getting out the door at Wally World for a mere $54, but I'd already spent $20 at Trader Joe's & around $110 at Sam's Club.. AND I didn't buy any chocolate at any of the three places.

Eufy Branded CCTV Cameras. Homebase 3 system with an additional S340 camera that I added yesterday. Just needed to put extra Solar Panels for charging on the cameras but it has been a very good system to use and monitor. Excellent clarity, easy to install and setup and works well in most conditions. Ice does freeze the lens, but it tends to clear during the day and it carries on working fine. All in all an reasonably priced system for public spaces and upgrading your security. Just need to get a doorbell camera for the Vicarage Door now.
Also bought a Nextbase 522W dashcam that I will fit later this week. That will be useful!!

We have 4 Eufy 2C Pro cams and a doorbell at home, really happy with them at the price point plus no subscription to pay....the_priest wrote: βMon Dec 02, 2024 7:37 am Eufy Branded CCTV Cameras. My mate reckoned he saves a fortune by ordering all his shopping online as he only buys what he needs, whereas if you go in the shop you see and buy all the temptations. I found this to be true during covid, but I like to get out of the house and buy shit I probably shouldn't.

I just hate online food shopping. The wife will do it now and then s we dont have a Morrisons and they do some great Gluten Free stuff other shops dont sell. I hate the though of them sending me Tampax as they have no cotton buds to send me. I read somewhere Tesco never had a number 9 birthday candle so they send a five and a four.Taipan wrote: βMon Dec 02, 2024 3:21 pmMy mate reckoned he saves a fortune by ordering all his shopping online as he only buys what he needs, whereas if you go in the shop you see and buy all the temptations. I was going to get them Eufy cameras. Two cameras and a home base thing for Β£99. Not to shabby as i know someone who paid 199 in the summer for the same system. Need some security lights up as well that is not going to piss my neighbours off or the cameras are just recording a pitch black back garden.the_priest wrote: βMon Dec 02, 2024 7:37 am Eufy Branded CCTV Cameras. That is because coeliac is an auto imune disease. It is a yes / no answer - you either have it or you don't. There can be different degrees - but if you are coeliac you have to remove all gluten or the body will react in some way.MingtheMerciless wrote: βSat Nov 30, 2024 10:28 am I had 30 years of the NHS saying "its IBS, live with it" before I self diagnosed gluten intolerance + A1 milk protein intolerance (I was so happy to find A2 milk and then the bastards stopped selling it). One thing I will say about "intolerance tests" is reserach who the tester is. A collegue of mine went for intolernace testing where the held onto two wires, which then went through a battery and a meter - and the wires attached to the food in question. That then supposidly told them they were intolerant to stuff - which came out as hops, white wine, yeast, and a few other things. People believe this stuff - it's being promoted by charaltans

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
I over did the gluten with gluten free beer. You need the gluten to be reduced to 20 parts per million to be classed as gluten free. They never told me of you spend a few nights on the piss you over do it My brother is also Coeliac and just benn diagnosed as Lactose intolerant also. That must be hell when eating out.Mr Moofo wrote: βTue Dec 03, 2024 9:08 amThat is because coeliac is an auto imune disease. It is a yes / no answer - you either have it or you don't.
