Forest of Dean – Launchpad trail refurb fundraiser

Post by weeksy »

So for all those regulars and not so regulars at FOD, you probably are very aware of Launchpad. It’s a very fun trail which has been battered quite a bit since it’s inception, and now it needs some TLC. The dean trail volunteers are running a fundraiser to get it resurfaced and back to its former glory.

Just wanted to give everyone here a heads up in case they wanted to donate! Here’s the link:

Not one I've ridden but appreciate the efforts of the volunteers so happy to make a contribution.

This trail was built as a gravity trail aimed at 4 wheeled MTBs and cost £50k to build which is an astronomical amount of money considering that it has never really been used for its intended purpose.

However, it's a form favourite with most as it's really fast and good fun, a counter on the trail a few years ago registered some 250k riders in a year.

DTV have just emptied their coffers on the skills area and the final descent on the verderers, another £20k worth of work.

I agree mate, I only ride Launchpad when I'm with someone else, it's not a trail that I would normally choose to ride unless I want to get to the bottom of the hill quickly. I think it needs the maintenance now because there's a section that's fallen away in a landslide.

You need to ride the Nutcracker on Dartmoor. That is proper au natural, to quote one of my mates "its goes from weee this is fun to ohh shhhitt World Cup DH course in 2 corners"
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."

FoD has plenty of proper bad boy stuff like that, which reminds me I need to get Taff out on the 12th

Oh, what have you got in mind?

Dowies is being felled at the moment and judging by Facebook chatter, it's in a bit of a mess. I haven't been over there myself yet.
