Yep I'm still tempted by a Bird and that would be my preference. I'm not convinced more travel is what I'm after though so my plan is try and find something for a decent (cheap) price and move it on if I don't like it as much as the t130. I honestly think the t130 is the best option for what I ride but it's good to try new things!

The descents around north essex are pretty severe you know...

Admittedly the trails around Butts Brow you probably do but that's less than 0.1% of the stuff I ride.
Looking at a cross section of the stuff around BTN, you need 170 plus, carbon, and really Santa Cruz.
And a motor

Apart from the cosmetic issue, that's a great buy... but as with all 2nd hand i'd want to see in person, make sure the forks are OK, shock is OK etc... They're £100 a pop to sort and the most expensive bit to repair. Other than that... nothing wrong with it at all.

Cheers - I'm definitely tempted to take a chance though didn't bid for the last auction in the end. It got to £600 ish and the sellers reserve still wasn't met. It's been relisted so will keep and eye on it and see what it gets to. Pickering is a fair trek from me so that's a day in the car to go get it too. That said, it's a free day off next monday so ideal really...

It's another trip to twisted oaks this weekend on the t130 - they've been busy building some fun new lines which were only half done last time we were there, so they should be fun.

Well, I have 2 potential deals lined up. One for a g170s in standard spec, just serviced with new drivetrain components and another for the bird Aeris 160 I linked to earlier. Better suspension, wheels and brakes on that but it’s going to be a bugger to pick up. Both are the same price… it’s a nice problem to have! But I have no idea of the answer!

Yeah I don’t think there’s a wrong answer! Its a 27.5, I think the newer Aeris is the 29

Been a while since this has been updated!

The T-130 is still around, and I've been doing plenty of riding mainly at Twisted, across the fields to work and also at Chicksands and the bike's done well.
I've increased the fork travel by 10mm to 150mm and am now running a hans dampf up front with a rock razor on the back, it flies. I like the hans dampf as it suits what I mostly ride and the rock razor has a lot more grip that you'd think! If it's proper nasty the G170 has a magic mary on the front so I use that instead.

Despite all this I've been considering swapping it for a Bird Aether 7. I'm glad I got the G170 instead of the Aeris 145 I was considering a while ago, but I really like the look/sound of the Aether. Not sure whether it's an upgrade or essentially swapping like for like. There's not that much in the reach/stack/HA/SA between the 2 (an M Whyte and ML Bird) so haven't quite made up my mind yet.

I had a read of your old thread…it did seem like quite a fun poppy bike… doesn’t seem like you’d have another!

Was possible a size too big now I look back, which made the reach too long.

Frame and paint was lovely.

May have a deal lined up, but would need to sell both the 130 and the g170. How awful is the second hand market now?

Hmmm, at least it sold though! I was hoping for around a grand for the 130 and around 800 ish for the 170. Hopefully that’s not too far fetched…

How bad is the market right now?!?! 😂😭

Seriously though… I know of a brand new unridden Medium sized Whyte T-140 CRS going for less than half of its original RRP if anybody wants me to put them in touch… It was actually Whyte’s show display model I believe… It’s never turned a wheel!

But then you can buy almost anything at half price brand new right now, so it’s not actually saying all that much… But it is a discontinued model that was actually very popular of its time.

There's 50% off Santa Cruz at Stiff, there's 67% off Rocky Mountain at Pauls, there's 50% off most Treks in Balfes, it's honestly insane at the moment.

I dunno, the market seems pretty good at the moment...

I've been offered pit bikes, a bmx and a stone island coat ("my mum paid 1.2k for it, you'll see it easily"), what's not to like!
