Re: Reading: The Book Thread
I've been trying to read my Lonely Planet guide to Vietnam.
Either I've been doing way too much of what mother told me would lead to sight loss or they print their books with bloody small font.

Re: Reading: The Book Thread
Just finished 'Infinity Gate' by M. R. Carey. He of 'The Girl With All the Gifts', 'Fellside' etc. It seems everything he does is a bit of a swerve from each previous topic. This one is a multiverse/AI/alternate histories sort of thing. Enjoyed it enough to be sufficiently impatient to wait for January for the release of the paperback of the sequel...so just ordered the hardback.

I've just finished 'John does at the end'.
It was alright, but I'm not rushing out to buy the sequel.

Just looked at the wiki on that.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 4:00 pm I've just finished 'John does at the end'.

I won't be breaking into a trot to acquire a copy.
PS Next up, another M R Carey 'Someone Like Me'. Started it ages ago and will probably have to start at the beginning again it was so long ago.

Next for me is The Human Division, the 5th book in the Old Man's War series, I hope it's as good as the others (saying that, I did skip Zoe's Tale as I just didn't fancy it).

Re: Reading: The Book Thread
Mark Billingham has written a series of books featuring a [typical for a fictional] dysfunctional Met police detective.
His new main detective character is in Last Dance, set in Blackpool.
He's not been fitted the filter between brain and mouth, but does have a bold sense of humour.
Half way through, enjoying it so far. Get the feeling that MB had loads of jokes saved up that didn't fit the previous gritty format.

Even bland can be a type of character
