No snow here

It's a chilly 23 here today. Luckily theres a gentle breeze and this mornings laundry has already dried on the washing line.

25c here and rare southerly breeze, which is a bit warmer than the usual northerly winds.

Pah, I've driven 25 miles to the office, bossing it in the snow in my Swedish pimp wagon.

Took me ages to get all the snow off the car, shouldn't have bothered, no fucker else on the commute had, snow falling off cars all over the shop.

That sodding annoys me!! Especially the morning after a heavy snow + serious freeze. Then it's not soft snow hitting the car behind them it's slabs of frozen snow/ice - bloody dangerous!! (and illegal here, not thay anyone gives a shit )

That reminds me of the time I picked a trailer up from the docks,midwinter & freezing,I had to bang all the ice from the airline connectors so that I could connect the tractor unit to the trailer.After I got everything sorted & got things moving I got to the end of the docks,did a sharp turn & 45ft/13.6 mtr of ice crashed from the trailer roof.The joys of trucking

Yup. I'm a bit worried this winter about how we clear the Sprinters/coaches. Don't think there's space inside the depot for all the vehicles - even if we leave the minibuses out, I doubt that 8 sprinters and 2 coaches will fit!!

It should be routine! But few people do it - especially tourists!!

For work - it's all geared up to able bodied staff. I can't clear a windscreen of snow/frost properly so the roofs are not gonna happen (and that's on a minibus - tbf I struggle to clear a windscreen on a car!! LOL )

If I have to, I use a broom for windscreen and roof on cars and minibuses (actually couldn't manage that very well until about 18 months ago!).

I can clear part of the screen of frost but on a minibus you need to stand on the wheel to reach most of it - can't hold on with the bad arm and if I hold on with the other arm, I can't scrape with the bad one! So I do need to run the engine to warm the screen etc (which according to the highway-bastarding-code, you shouldn't do!!)


Not sure that'd work on a coach though!! At least there won't be much snow on the screen of a bus tho! And they are parked in the valley so 'shouldn't' get too much snow on the roof - maybe!!

Great if you're the one to park it up and cover!! LOL

But that was my plan for my Transit when I thought I wasn't going to get a covered parking place!! It is also the reason I always pay for covered parking in the winter - so much easier!!

But on the buses at the depot - will totally depend on who parks the one I will drive the next day!! Mind you, when he finds out how long it takes me to clear them (and I will go down early to check if I need more time and then clock on!) then he might sort out a system for me!! (Although probably not!! )

When I was trucking I'd just fire up the Eberspacher for a few minutes,lovely toasty cab,windscreen defrosted

A sprinter won't have an eberspacher, possibly an auxiliary heater, my Moho does which works when the water temp is below 70.
Full size coaches often have some form of night heating, except usually have to be programmed and instructions are never in English, so easier to plumb in an inverter and use a leccy heater!

Today i went for a walk in the SNOW!!! About bloody time!! I still don't have snow boots, definitely have to get some of those soon!!

I honestly don't know. Not something that was covered on the course - we didn't even do snowchains FFS! Given that it was a course just before winter in an area where most of us will drive in or around the mountains, I was a bit miffed!

I'm hoping so. I'm sure the boss has this covered. I'm not asking him anything until I actually pass the highway code and know I'll be doing this this winter!! Have to wait and see!

But I'm sure the coaches will be ok - one is two years old (I think) and the other is brand new. Pretty sure the Sprinters are new, just the three older ones, but even they are only two or three years old, so all should have the right stuff for the condition. Hopefully!!

Today I am celebrating my 27th wedding anniversary.

Will shortly be meeting the lovely Mrs. G and another couple for a PFL (Proper F**king Lunch) at Il Bordello in Wapping, a nice old-school Italian that's been around for 30 years. I suspect a few glasses of vino may be consumed.

Not so much today,but Mrs.Skub and I were away to Prague for three days. Had a good time and walked our feet off every day,but neither of us would go back. Mad fucking crowds of tourists even in November,it would be my worst nightmare in peak season.

The sun sort of made an appearance this morning so I got the cramponythingies out for my 'summer' boots, then dug out the rucksack with my camera in it and went off for a little bimble cos, well, snow is awesome!!

It's definitely harder to walk in that just going for a stroll! And there is a bit of 'sort of' pisting out there - not completely flat so I won't go touring until after my highway code test on Monday!! Can't fail because I got injured But next week starts the fitness/ski touring campaign of the season!

Apparently its -9c here doesn't feel that cold, but mostly I reckon cos it's pretty dry And I don't care anyway cos I have heat at home
