The Kia Evo 6 super duper thing does HyperCar acceleration and looks like your nans Honda accord.

The acceleration buz wore off for me. My i5 does 0-62 in about 5 seconds. I think. It does do 300 miles + in winter and extreme comfort.

Personally, if I was going for a sports car I’d get one with an engine and not a battery. Fast is fast, but the grumble of a v8 would have my money.

I had a test drive in a ford explorer last week. AWD and 0-60 in 5,something. As much as I wanted to dislike it I didn’t. 0% APR and 100% allowance in the first year has swung me.

I despair at the ever increasing size of cars. Now my son is at high school and I have to do the school run as no direct public transport from our village, about 70% of the cars are fucking MASSIVE, and 90% of them have 1 adult and 1 teenager

I may have mentioned on another thread, I had a Hyundai Ionic 5N on demo for a few hours recently. £65k but by far the fastest and best handling leccy car i've driven so far, and I've driven most of the high performance (and low performance) stuff. It really does take the leccy cars to the next level imo.

You still can't beat the sound of an ICE vehicle though. But the gap does seem to be getting smaller, albeit that we're all being pushed towards electric.

I know. I have a Mazda 3 and it was perfectly fine with 2 adults, 2 older kids and a weeks worth of luggage to Dartmouth. Nice and comfy. But people at work have mentioned that I have a small car. It seems the marketing of have a kid = VW Tiguan at a minimum works

From the EUs point of view an SUV is a car. A BMW X5 or a Porsche Cayenne is built under the same regs as a 5 series or a 911.

SUVs cost the OEM the same as a 'normal' car to build (as above, they're usually the same car underneath built in the same factory) but they sell for more. Kerching, from the OEMs viewpoint.

I don't recall ever having said that on this forum before, but hey-ho.

The frontal design and pedestrian protection regulations for non-SUVs are way stricter than those allowed for SUVs, or are you not aware of that? I'm not talking 'platforms', I'm talking frontal design as part of making impacts with pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and other vulnerable road users as survivable as possible.

It's not even difficult to understand. Would you as a pedestrian prefer to be hit by (say) a Ford Focus or a BMW XM?

Yep, it is a bit of a gimmick, i'm not sure how they do it but it's very clever and really feels like you're changing gear. Can have various piped noises (V8 or V12 i think) inside the car. Slightly gimmicky but also good fun.

SUV's SUX!

I like the 'height' of SUVs - the getting in and out height. But that's mostly because I had mobility issues for a while (even before the shoulder) and so anything with a higher seat is easier.

BUT - they are all just so fucking big!! I've been looking at Fabias - they aren't exactly small (and don't have a high seat) but they will fit in a parking space!!


I think nowadays, because I've driven LWB minibuses for so many winters I just want and easy vehicle for personal use. And hopefully I'll be driving coaches and big Sprinters from December, so I really want a smaller vehicle for everyday! LOL (I will still get a van again one day, just to do bike stuff!!)

That applies at the other end of the market too. VW have deleted the very popular Up from their list, presumably because they couldn’t make a profit (or enough profit) from it. It’s easier with a bigger car.
