It's obviously not that bad, otherwise the only users on here during daylight hours would be the retired folk*.

I've got the freedom to do what I want - generally 3 days in the office but flex that as I want.
Nice to be in the office for the socials but if I have something big to work on, WFH is best. I have a proper home office so actually better than the work office!

I've only been D&A tested for one job, 20 years ago, as part of the induction process. Never again since.

We theoretically can test people here, but it's never happened to my knowledge. Not that they put it on the noticeboard :hmmm:

I used to spend work time in roadworks depots. We were told that if the D&A test team arrived, the doors would be locked and we would be tested along with everyone else.

The only time I'm aware of a test happening was when a driver had a minor bump in a truck (in the depot, cracked an indicator lens). Only him tested.

The wife is H&S, in her last job (big PPE distributor) she used to do it whenever anyone hit the racking or was reported by a colleague for smelling of booze, or even when they boasted about having a splif the night before in front of her at the smoking shelter.

If they failed the company had a duty of care to get them home safely (paid for a taxi) and check they were ok!

For a good chunk of lockdown I was more than happy WFH, I actually good so much work done even I was impressed.

But as time went on my mentals started going a bit wobbly and I just needed a change of culture (that job was a bit of a shitshow) and I needed people to talk shit with. So I got a new job, 4 days a week in office - but I can do less - and Friday at home, but it is only 4 hours. I choose to go in every day because I like my work and the people i work with.

One of the company's tag lines is 'inventing the future of flight', and in our little way that's exactly what we're doing ✈️

Railway, so we get lots of D&A testing - random and for cause.
Only a few weeks ago an apprenticeship failed his D&A - not good at his age, 10 years out of the industry.

I wish they'd had WFH in my yoof. I remember being frozen silly, commuting on bike :(

I still love wfh but I used to do a fair bit before 2020. I don't mind going into the office but after various acquisitions and rounds of redundancies I'm unlikely to see anyone I know in the office. So I'm looking at moving even further away than my current 2 hour commute in the hope that wfh is here to stay but not going to affect my wages. That's a bit of a risk but for my line of work fairly safe.

Another good thing bout WFH is I had a monster of cold the other week and spoke to my boss and said i'd wfh rather than come in like this and she said to take it off sick, but i said there was no need as quite capable of work just didn't fancy the ride in and spreading it around. Plus you can swap your wfh days around if you have deliveries or work being done on the house etc, where as before I'd have to waste leave on such things.

Covid was squarely ‘living at work’ rather than working from home.

A lot of people had, and continue to have challenging setups where their bedroom is also their office etc etc.

I guess it depends on how much of your job is just doing your time and punching a clock. Most IT roles could be done remotely, most clinical roles need to be done in person.

I encourage people to use the time well. So if the want to walk the dogs whilst on a call, that’s fine. We don’t do the whole ‘you were doing this for an hour so you owe us an hour’ BS. So long as the work is done- I don’t mind.

I currently work 4 days from home but that’s up to me. I can do 5 or none ( although have to attend in person for board meetings).

Before lockdown I was in the office 5 days a week. I’m now several folds more productive ( and my salary is twice was it was in 2020).

A large part of this debate comes down to what you view work as.
