What is this? Pepper type dust on window frame

This has appeared on a small, say 1/4, area of my sons window ledge/frame. If you clear it away it'll be back to this in say 3 odd days. Looking online the closest I could find was cockroach shit. But why would they only shit on 1/4 of the frame, in 1 room and I work in that room, plus cos I'm paranoid checked several times over night and nada.

Any ideas? I was thinking as it's appeared with the weather change could be mould related but again only 1 part (although that is next to a window) and it's like black pepper granules and just wipes or vacuums away.

Read that, but his were black tar type stuff on the outside rather than the inside. So assume this is different?

We get something very similar to that on our log store - it's woodlice in our case.

Spoke to a pest controller, he said it sounds like something ants or other insects do. He recommended double sided tape to try and catch something, then said send a pic and he'll recommend a plan. Or put down some ant gel. But will try and catch something.

In the meantime I heard a scratching sound in the loft. Spoke to my neighbour, he's had mice under his stairs for a couple of weeks caught 6 so far. So I've raided my garage and set 2 rat traps and 6 mouse traps in the loft. Couple in the kitchen too just in case. Fuck sake.

Get a cat...

Ours is pretty useless at catching stuff, but the presence and smell of a cat is often sufficient to make them move somewhere that is cat-free.
