Should be interesting to see how the trail bike version compares to the Himalayan,Voge & CRF in both performance & price.
I always liked the look of the DRZ400 SM,I think this new version would look good in classic Suzuki blue & white.

I like it, but then I liked the look of the old one too. Price will be interesting, hopefully it'll be popular if they price it right.

Wonder if they'll do a cut back 'E' version for competition use... That's more faster, cheaper and can be road registered by some enterprising souls, just like the old one.

I like the look of them, but if anything, they look even heavier than the original - they've quoted things like suspension travel and feel capacity, but not weight or power, so I'm reserving judgment until they do, and/or I ride one

This really boggles the mind - aren't we supposed to be on a path of improvement in design? Adding 20kg to an 'updated, improved' model should be a stabbing offence. At 154kg it weighs the same as my fully roadgoing KTM Duke. But my Duke has a 690cc engine, not a 400cc engine, a 14 litre tank, not an 8.7 litre tank (which also has an impact on curb weight) and all the road paraphernalia that goes with it.
I really like the look of the new DRZ, but the extra weight means it's an instant no from me.

Just a thought - has anyone actually weighed a fully fuelled 'original' DRZ? Manufacturers were known to play fast and loose with quoted weights back in the day...

Riding one back to back with a Husky 610, the Husky felt lighter, but the old DRZ carried it's weight high, it felt like the weight was between your knees, the Husky felt like it was between your ankles. I really liked my DRZ, I was talking to someone at work on Friday about DRZs, he'd had two of them, and like me, he loved his, he's considering buying one of these as a second bike to have in addition to his Hypermotard. I'd quite like another one, but this one doesn't address the two things I didn't like about the old DRZ, a bit too heavy and a bit too slow, what was great about the DRZ was it's superb reliability and it's superb throttle response, it was built like a tank, and the only problem I had on mine was the sprocket oil seal leaking when I buried it down to the sprocket in wet sand, I think it cost about £40 to get it replaced by my local Suzuki dealer.

My old man had a DRZ-E when I had a KDX220R, so I got to ride both a lot.
The only advantage the DRZ had was I didn't have to take a bottle of two-smoke oil and a marked measuring cup with me if I wanted to do any distance.

To be fair it looks like the Suzuki is ~150kg ready to ride, whereas a Duke is that weight dry?
As for where the weight comes from...same place as always . Stiffer/chunkier chassis, emissions, (lack of) noise, electronics and middle aged rider spread
