That's a bit of an ask for ANY car.

Quick example, here's a list of 10 year old BMWs with >100k on them, they've all lost 80-90% of their value with a very few exceptions for 'special' stuff.

EDIT: I was talking to my (EV owning) Mum about this the other day, it's also something we talk about alot at work of course. The degradation of EV battery performance is nothing like as bad as everyone knows™ it is. The depreciation curve is also not as bad as everyone knows it is. But it basically doesn't matter, because EVERYONE KNOWS EV's lose value really quickly and their batteries die quickly. Thus is becomes a self perpetuating prophecy, it basically doesn't matter what the actual numbers say People think EVs lose value quickly, so they do.

It's just like how everyone knows there are no high power chargers in the UK, when there are in fact hundreds - probably actually thousands - by now.

I can't see a way out of that 'loop' other than for more people to have EVs and the general public perception to change through experience.

I said decent, not high. High spec premium cars will always lose 80-90%. I will bet a 10yo ICE Merc has better residuals than an equivalent EV

Not really, but only because of small sample sizes. There isn't really an EV equivalent to a 10 year old Merc yet, the only thing you could really choose would be a 10 year old Tesla, which still commands pretty strong money.

But like I said, that's 'cause this whole field/market is still new and you're looking at a small pool of cars.

The only new car I ever bought was a Peugeot 405 GTDT. It developed a problem with what turned out to be the vacuum pump. There had been a call in notice on younger cars for the vacuum pump bracket so I hoped it would be covered even though the car was out of the warranty period. The dealer had already checked with Peugeot in Coventry on my behalf as they thought it might have been related. It wasn't but Peugeot told them my car was the 5th 405 GTDT off the line.

My car had an 1800 turbo diesel engine and by the time of the problem Peugeot were already using their ubiquitous 1900 engine in the 405. That car was easily the best car I'd ever owned, comfortable, fuel efficient, galvanised body . . . I kept it 16 years and put 216000 miles on it.

I always wondered who had bought the first 4 cars and if they had had the same good fortune.

BTW. I know it's not the point of your story but typically the "first car off the line" is actually somewhere in the hundredth or thousandths off the line. High volume OEMs will make several thousand prototype and pre-production cars before they start going on sale, the last few hundred of which will be identical to what the punters buy. And that's before you even think about all the press/demo/dealer training etc cars.

My 28yo/135k mile diesel was the most expensive truck option when it was new, over twice what the cost was for a stock F350 XLT. Total was around $44,000. A few weeks ago I turned down an offer of $40,000.

The only resto work is repair/paint of the body kit parts.... which were damaged the first year the original owner had it. No idea why he never took care of that seeing how anal he was about the truck.
Drove it to Willow yesterday. Had two guys come up to ask about the truck. They were convinced the custom paint was a recent addition & that I'd decided to "replicate a '90's look". They were astounded it was the original '96 paint.
Altho with that said, when the sun in low in the sky you can see the paint needs some correction work. I have all the gubbins to take care of that.
