I hail from Essex so outrank them both by having more coastline, so my declaration stands!Cousin Jack wrote: βThu Nov 07, 2024 7:39 pmAre you a native, or one of them furriners? Well, the Devon lot invented it so they win in the jam/cream debate.Cousin Jack wrote: βThu Nov 07, 2024 7:39 pmAre you a native, or one of them furriners? The origins of cream tea are disputed, but the earliest record of a similar snack dates back to the 11th century at Tavistock Abbey in Devon.
The monks at Tavistock Abbey rewarded the workers who rebuilt the abbey after a Viking attack in 997 AD with bread, clotted cream, and strawberry jam. The snack became popular and the monks served it to travellers, many of whom were headed to Cornwall.

Red sauce, or tomato sauce as the grown ups call it, is sickly sweet. But this is worth a punt if yo have a good world food section in your Tesco.

That brings up the ultimate trio.
Peanut butter. Strawberry jam and cheese.
I'm not sure if I've ever done it the same way.

Red it quite nice on battered fish n chips. Square sausage on a roll has to be broon.Taipan wrote: βThu Nov 07, 2024 10:11 pm Red sauce, or tomato sauce as the grown ups call it, is sickly sweet. But this is worth a punt if yo have a good world food section in your Tesco.

Re: What do we want to argue about next?
I'm a bit weird as I don't really like batter and generally pick the fish out of it. I'd forgotten about square sausage! Our Tesco sed to do it, I think it was called Lorne sausage, but they dont stock anything scottish anymore. I can but everything from Ackee to polish horseradish (lush!) but nothing from Scotland.Felix wrote: βFri Nov 08, 2024 12:20 amRed it quite nice on battered fish n chips. I usually have Heinz chilli tomato sauce in my fridge, it's way better than simple tomato sauce.

Yes, if you eat enough you can change the sprung/unsprung weight ration significantly.

Re: What do we want to argue about next?
Well it's Islamophobia awareness month dontch'a know.
....and rampaging gangs of Muslim immigrants are beating up Jews in Amsterdam to celebrate.
Not sure if that's anything to argue about, wonder if it will even make the mainstream news?
I am kinda curious as to why we in the UK are allowing "free Palestine" marches in direct support of Hamas, a known terrorist organisation. Then arresting or locking up anyone who complains calling them "extreme right wing".
Almost as if Starmer and our Police are deliberately turning a blind eye to anything these Islamic extremists get up to. I guess we could argue about that...
