Friday thread, the post-election no-one really cares about

Post by weeksy »

So it's finally over and Trump has won, but i for one, don't really care... but the weekend threads need a title to distinguish them, so this was it.

Fri. WFH and then chilling with the boy, Mrs Weeksy has been away for a while and we're running out of cooking options, so it's either burgers or take away, which of course, living where we do we have to collect as they don't deliver it.

Sat. The usual really, MTB in the morning and a beer/cake with Crust and likely meet the boy up there as he's out road-biking for fitness.

Sun. That's a mystery currently.... but could be somewhat interesting.

So the wrist problem doesn't stop him road riding?

After the mini-break last week (which put a marked blip in my weight loss curve :D ) it's back to what might be laughingly called normal this week.

Might get really exciting with some gutter clearing and leaf gathering.

Wife out with her mates tonight, so i think i'm cabbie for them all? I might go and see my Step Dad and take my F-i-L with me as they've become good friends in recent years.

Tomorrow I think i've got to build some MDF shelves in the chimney alcove thing. Slightly annoying as i did this before but they had to go as no one has shelves anymore and we had to by some dresser thing to go in there. But now no one has dresser things an you have to have fitted shelves in there with logs at the bottom for a log burner we dont have! :wtf:

Sunday going out for drinks and dinner with my Nephew an his Lithuanian Mrs. I doubt the Beefeater sells Carp, so I dunno what she's going to eat! :D

Last day of the course today. So, day three of sitting around doing very little and being very bored!! TBF, I have done some revision for the highway code. We use an online system and this morning I have totally depressed myself by choosing to revise areas of the subject that I struggle with in previous 'tests'. Haven't got even close to passing one yet :( :( Part of it is that I don't always understand the question (still) but FFS!!

Tomorrow - probably a very long lie in then a walk. Some friends are back in resort now so hopefully meeting up in the evening at the open restaurant near them (might walk down so I can have a drink for a change!!).

Sunday - similar - minus the walking down to the resto as it's closed Sundays  Might still walk down to say high :D

Monday (cos it's a bank holiday here - the French know how to do remembrance day) - I'll be popping out to the memorial statue at 11 with a poppy. There's no service up in resort, but I'm not sure I can ride to the valley - depends if it's frozen over night or not!

Later in the day I'll be heading back to Chambery for the night as I have an early appointment in the morning on Tuesday (that the instructor here managed to forget about when planning the mock exams so I missed it then  ) and I really don't want to risk riding down the mountain at 7am on Tuesday morning as one experience of a bike dancing on black ice really is enough!!

There's been vague suggestions of my favourite instructor coming to visit this weekend, depending on if he's working or not. But I'm not pinning any hopes on that!! Would be nice tho (although if he turns up Saturday he'll have to come and spend an evening with a bunch of Brits - only two of whom speak reasonable French, and mainly only work French!!  That would actually make me giggle after spending 3 months basically only speaking French and having a couple of folks - including him - take the mickey out of my accent!!  )

Then from after the weekend, it's at least two hours of highway code test practice everyday to try and get my level up to being able to pass on the 25 or 26 November. If I fail, I loose everything that I HAVE passed and have to do the course again - the fukkers!!!
Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!! :bblonde:

Out tonight to somewhere on the Victoria Embankment for an 'immersive soul experience'. I think this translates to a bit of dinner, some drinks and some singers and musicians belting out old soul classics. Should be a laugh.

Saturday, we're off to Hastings to see a friend in her latest am-dram production. No idea what it is, but in fairness all the previous ones have been pretty impressive. Be nice to catch up as since they've moved away we don't see them very often.

Sunday, hopefully very little.

Friends coming down for the weekend with a psycho cocker spaniel. Not sure what the form will be - but drinking / eating . Probably Brighton tomorrow.
Sunday Remembrance Day Parade with the RNLI in Shoreham - which involves a one yearly visit to church - and then in the pub by 11.30. That said, I am on call in the evening - so can only have a couple - which is a good thing

I'm still home alone (two weeks in, the missus is off a visitin'), so I've adopted a curious routine of a 'single' gentleman which seems to be -
- work
- dashing between all those messy diy jobs I can never see to get to when anyone else is in the house
- not eating very much because it turns out I really don't care
- wanking, obviously

So this weekend it will be mainly more of that, not the work though, and I'm off out for a pizza and beers with neighbours tonight who probably feel sorry for me.

Monday is a national holiday over here as well, so 3 days of messing.

The usual dull shed stuff. Cutting and packing stove wood, listing tat on Ebay, that sort of thing.

Same shit, different day.

I wouldn't say I don't care about Trump. When he puts up his trade barriers that's likely to cause a global recession, which is something we're all going to care about however much we aren't interested in politics. Until then, the post-mortems have been done, Harris misread the mood of the nation - not drastically, but when the candidates are so close a small shift makes a big difference in how the votes fall. It's the economy, stoopid. And the first ones to feel the pinch when the evil oompa-loompa gets his feet back under the desk will be America and Ukraine. So long democracy, rule of law, women's rights, human rights, the climate crisis and economic stability. Our time will come.

This weekend however I will mainly be avoiding the media trying to drag out their Trump stories. No major plans, will try to get a ride in if the weather holds. Still gotta do a shedload of cutting back in the garden. I don't like autumn, it's dreich.
