Nostalgia: Chcolate bars
What choccy bar sends you straight back to being a kid?
My dad used to bring home the occasional StarBar for us when we were under 10 (presumably on those occasions he'd had a good day or something), and even though the modern ones aren't exactly the same, that mix of flavours and textures still makes me think of bright summer evenings and his return home.
What's your favourite and can you still get it?

I have memories from my childhood of when the Wispa was launched back in the 80's, it was a massive campaign with Smith and Jones and the product was kept secret for ages.

Every few years I see a Lion Bar on the shelf and think to myself "hmm, I didn't know they still made Lion Bars".
I'm due a repeat any time now.

My Step Dad used to have these. I used to nick a square every now and again. He'd get the right hump!

We were too skint to buy chocolate, my Dad would blow his wages on a Friday in the snooker hall and us kids would be living on cabbage and mash for the rest of the week.
I do remember my Grandad buying old Jamaica

Fry's Turkish Delight.
I recall liking it as a child, but 20 years on or whenever it was that I tasted it again - disgusting! Which of course then put me off tasting 'proper' Turkish Delight for ages - which of course is fecking lovely.

Re: Nostalgia: Chcolate bars
I loved Caramac, but it had now been discontinued but I did have a pasion for Fingers of Fudge!!
Mum loved Fry Chocolate creme , Turkish Delight - and I had forgotten about Old Jamaica
Wife's parenst used to own a newsagents in Newport Pagnell - which did pick n mix. Apparently she used to eat all the green triangles out of the Quality Street bin. So if anyone ever shopped there in the 60s I would like to apologise on her behalf that there were never any green triangles !

I really liked the Cabana Bar - the one with coconut and cherries in.

Turns out it's sort of still available - I found this website whilst trying to find the name of the coconut and cherries chocolate bar that I coudln't remember. I think they're making old chocolate bars by hand to order...??!

Ooh, thanks. I'm not sure I'd pay £3 + P&P for one though.ChrisW wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 6:07 pm I really liked the Cabana Bar - the one with coconut and cherries in.

It had a limited return earlier this year, can still be found to purchase online. I'm sure they'll be smaller and taste differently mind.

Re: Nostalgia: Chcolate bars
It was never chocolate as such - always a cheap coating. Cadburys caramilk is much nicerMrLongbeard wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 8:52 amIt had a limited return earlier this year, can still be found to purchase online. I'm sure they'll be smaller and taste differently mind.

Re: Nostalgia: Chcolate bars
My Dad was an engineer at the Mars factory for a couple of years. He brought home bin bags of Maltesers. My brother and I ate so many that we were ill and took a day off school. I haven't eaten them since, nor a Mars bar or Marathon (Snickers). To this day I don't eat much chocolate and don't crave it.

I've always heard you're allowed to eat as much chocolate as you like in the factory, cause everyone maxes out in the first 2 days

It's true. If everyone could do that as a child it would cure diabetes type 2.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 11:37 am I've always heard you're allowed to eat as much chocolate as you like in the factory, cause everyone maxes out in the first 2 days
