The crf1000.....again!

Post by Sadlonelygit »

It's back!
Needs the 16k service 'its a biggy' he said.
All fluids, oil filters, valve check and a wipe down with an oily rag!
Should have rtfm before agreeing to it!
Remove bodywork, tank and airbox......that's 1½ hrs
Ok, there's a tray of coils sitting above the rocker cover. Wriggle here, wriggle there, nope not coming out with the injectors in the way.....off come the injectors. Bit more wriggling.....nope, not coming out unless I free the coils.
I can only see 3 plug caps......4 behind a radiator......off with the rads then!
Now we have access to the rocker box.....off she comes easy peasy!
Check valves......all in spec! Cock....or huzzah
Just have to pop it all back together now, which usually takes twice as long as pulling it apart!

It's a paying punter, so unfortunately it will be done expeditiously, but photos will be taken just to show how bloody awkward it is!

Oh fuckity fuckity fuck fuck!
Lobbed it all back together, which required a partial re build as one of the injector connectors was inaccessible once TB are fitted......and it was a 'where does this wire go' moment
Eventually got the tank back on......which was a struggle, fire up lovely, but a fair bit of smoke, it'll clear soon.....nope!
Hmmm, smells like burning oil. Stop the motor and have a look.
Oil is dripping down the engine......aaarrrrrrggghhhhh
So pull it all down again.......rocker cover not sitting quite flush, have I mentioned 'fuck' yet!
Seems a dowel has dropped a wee bit which just stops the gasket sealing.....deep joy!
So darkness has stopped playing, but I'm now getting good at putting the coils back in!

Back together again, no unintentional leaks this time!
So just have to drop the oil.....2 drain plugs and 2 filters, one of which is partially obscured by the crash bar! On the other side, the dipstick is blocked in by the NERF bars!!!!

The screen grabnuts are notorious for falling through and putting a new one in is a lot easier than retrieving he old one. On the forums everyone advises to get spares if you're changing or just removing the screen as it's likely at least one will fall in.
