Can you still put written off bikes back on the road?

There's a chance of a very tasty bike becoming available to me for not much £

It was written off last week, mainly because the crash bung bent, and marred the frame.

If I bought t, can I just insure it and go ?

Depends what category it is.

IIRC it's something along the lines of...

Cat A - Must be scrapped/crushed
Cat B - Must be scrapped, but parts can be sold
Cat S - Needs to be assessed before it can go back on the road
Cat N - Just cosmetic damage

I can’t remember what cat d used to be but back in 2017 or 2018 ( I think ) some fuck nugget reversed in to my partners car when she was at work and dented the door big time and that ended up being a cat n, uneconomical repair but not structurally unsafe or anything like that. So nothing was required and you could keep it on the road etc without having to have it repaired and then checked out.

So essentially cat n is the same I think, there might be slight variables to it but pretty much the same.

If the frame is damaged in any way, especially if it's an aluminium frame, I would be surprised if it'll be categorised to be allowed back on the road.

Yeah I've done similar with cars - other than the inconvenience it was relatively easy to turn a tidy profit if the ins. co. bunged you the vehicle back for nowt along with the compo.

My old Fazer was a cat c......needed plastics, tank repair and end can (that's a few grand at Yamaha prices)
Fiesta was storm damaged and had an insurance marker against it (but that was en France).
Just had a friend's mk6 fiesta repaired after it was 'written off' by insurance (wing, bonnet, grill, light, sway bar). She's about £1500 to the good......until she renews!

This was a while ago TBF, no idea if that's still the case. I got my auld Rover620 back on road - the ins. co. deemed it too expensive to repair (two new doors and paintwork) and we agreed that their lowball valuation of the vehicle's worth, plus keeping it was a fair outcome. It was still driveable. I managed to get some passable doors from some bloke's hideous backgarden scrapyard in Oxford for 40 quid and voila.

My understanding was that they're buying the broken vehicle off you with the payout, so you can't have the money AND the vehicle. They will sell it back to you sometimes though.

That's been my experience both times I've had cars written off.

Yup my Exeo got Cat N for a rear ender earlier this year. Got paid out as Navy blue Exeo tailgates are like a popular childrens toys excrement so paint would have been involved.

As I still had the car as it was driveable they offered to sell it back to me for less than a bag. It would have cost them more to come and pick it up and take it to auction.

As a bonus as it looks rough on the outside nobody in nice shiny cars park too close to me in car parks anymore
