I'm old school, I really loved Oxo crisps.
Today I enjoy a Pringle, sour cream and chive for preference.

Recently. Cheetos. I think they must sprinkle a bit of heroin on them.

Did you not say you were GF and Lactose intolerant a while back. I know Wotsits on paper and GF but still made in a factory that contains gluten. Not sure i want to take the risk after going overboard on the GF beer.

I bought some Dill pickle flavoured Pringles in New York some years ago. They were lush.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2024 10:18 pmI remember them in Sainsburys, top stuff.
IKEA used to do Dill flavoured ones, probably my favourite crisps ever. I was clearly the only person who felt that way cause they stopped selling them.
Went back to America last year, not a sign of them anywhere, I was gutted.
Anyway Marmite crisps are/were the best (the Walkers ones that is, the new Tayto ones are shite).

Re: Crisps, what's your go to?
I Googled 'what are hand cooked crisps' - smaller batches, in a kettle, lower temperature cooking, thicker cut, longer cooking time, constant manual stirring = less grease per crisp + more flavour, apparently.

Hollywood has a thespian crisp. 'Let's Potato Chips' appear in loads of shows like Sons of Anarchy, My Name is Earl and Arrested Development. Adverts have even been created for these virtual crisps.
...and this year's Academy Award for Best Supporting Potato Based Convenience Snack is.....
Wonder what would happen if you tried to create/sell real Let's Potato Chips?

Re: Crisps, what's your go to?
I'll eat (plain) ones if they're in front of me but wouldn't ever think about buying them. The flavoured ones always taste 'synthetic' ie the only thing cheese and onion crisps actually taste like are cheese and onion crisps.
I used to make a crispy topping with bashed up plain crisps for a topping on a tuna bake (instead of breadcrumbs) once upon a time. Worked rather well.
Wouldn't touch Pringles with a bargepole. They're the star of the processed/engineered/vaguely addictive junk food industry. Fat/salt/sugar and potato flour/rice flour paste. Barf.

Re: Crisps, what's your go to?
My mum did the crisps on pasta bake thing loads when I was a kid.
She makes cheesecakes now with crisps in the base. Every time I'm presented with it now she seems to forget she's shown me before, I'm always expected to go "wow! I never would have believed it!".

Just been reminded...my SiL was a 'consumer testing' guinea pig years ago. One of the delights they sent for evaluation was....egg and bacon flavoured....popcorn.

PS 'cat out of the bag' - naval term, the cat o' nine tails was stored in a bag, nowt to do with . Ditto 'not enough room to swing a cat'.

Doritos work best in my experience, work well on top of cheesy mash too.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 9:35 am My mum did the crisps on pasta bake thing loads when I was a kid.

Re: Crisps, what's your go to?
Burger King do Dorito crusted chicken strippers now, just to really hit all the junk food clichés BK are owned by Pepsi, who also own the Dorito brand and a load of other stuff. AFAIK Pepsi sell fewer drinks that Coca-Cola but more food overall 'cause of all their brands.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 10:20 amDoritos work best in my experience, work well on top of cheesy mash too.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 9:35 am My mum did the crisps on pasta bake thing loads when I was a kid.
Fun little fact about Doritos - they were first made/sold in Disneyland.
IMO corn based crisps are >>> potato ones. I'm not counting Wotsits et al in that statement*, but anything Dorito esque gets my vote.
*although I'll always have a special place in my heart for 10p Space Raiders and Flamin' Hot Monster Munch
