Friday thread, the 'still got the lurgy' one

Well i'm still shit... not 100% now, but certainly not enough to be heading out MTBing this weekend. Getting pretty irritated by the man-flu now, but not a lot i can do about it.

Fri. Not a lot... lol
Sat. Will take the boy to Pontypool for a days uplift and practice.
Sun. Watching some bicycles and feeling a bit sad.

The last few days of my hanging about down south, looking forward to driving to the northlands on Monday and if all goes well the ferry home on Wednesday.

My manflu is vaguely under control due to the high level of random stuff I got from the chemist!! Antihistamine (only once a day??? - not pictured cos I threw away the box!), some paracetamol and other stuff mix and a very odd nose spray!! Oh, and I take an essential oil called Ravintsara!! LOL Who knows what actually worked And of course, I don't actually have manflu TBF, I don't feel great, but at least my face and nose stopped running! I got to school yesterday thinking I was fine and one of the girls copied how I was speaking - so apparently I still 'sounded' like I had a cold!!

Today - late school, 13h30 - 20h50 So home about 23h. Think I will just sleep till I wake up tomorrow, no alarms!! Currently having coffee and the hotel then going to go clear my room and do some homework so I have less to do the weekend. Then off to school to go drive a bus on more stupid roads in the rain

Saturday - if I wake up at a half reasonable time I'll head to the valley on the bike. If not, I'll go for a walk. Need to start actually walking again as it's getting close to touring season and I want to do a bit of ski touring with my nephew in the first week of the season - can't quit before the top due to lack of fitness!! LOL LOL

Sunday - early rise, homework, go to the valley (weather permitting) and then walking and early bed cos it's a 6m start Monday - well, I need to leave home at 6am. The actual 6am starts are Weds and Friday - need to leave home at 4am for those

Today try and find out how to realign my satellite dish after next doors pikey roofers took it off its bracket whilst they were working and now the picture keeps pixilating! And breathe...

Tomorrow, clear my campervan out as teh weather looks good for a couple of days next week so we're going to sneak a couple of days away! As I'm taxing it again, i'll use it to move a few things to my Sons flat. On that note I have to do a couple of jobs round there before he moves in.

Sunday got f-i-l round and possibly m-i-l and step f-i-l too.

PS Re: Manflu; I very rarely get colds and if I do they are always gone within two days tops. But I got one two weeks ago and was hacking and spluttering like mad for about 5 days and had the mother of all sore throats. I amused myself but annoyed the hell out of my wife with my endless Barry White impressions, but eventually recognised it wasn't right having this throat and a bizarrely low body temp, so I gave in and booked a docs appointment. I swear that two hours before going to Docs i felt everything subside! Within 24 hours I was back to normal? Never known a cold to hang on me like that???

Pissing down and windy,so no bike rides,but tomorrow looks to be decent,before it all goes shit shaped on Sunday again.

I have Phillip Island Motogp to watch,plus WSBK Jerez later too. Good day for it. Vizitor cat will no doubt be using me as a bed for the duration.

Our oven has shit itself,but still under warranty,so not my problem for once. Engineer calling today,I predict a new heating elephant. Hotpoint are shit btw.

I keep an eye out for my housebound neighbour and her oil boiler is tripping out on initial start up,no obvious fault and the heating guy suggested living with it until something breaks then he'll know what it is! So I need to check it's on at 8am and again at 4pm,if not hit the reset button. I'm usually up early anyway,so no biggy.

Living the dream this weekend.

Absolutely! I would if I was there, but can't get anything like that here Although I suspect that what I've bought is very similar!

If I can get back in November, I do need to do a stock up on Lemsip Max for sure! I remembered to do a serious stock on Soothers last time but didn't go into supermarkets enough times to get Lemsip as well as the other cheap drugs I was collecting!! I did seriously stock up on Ibuprofen which is a bonus cos all meds non prescribed are really expensive here - well, compared to over there! My GP does prescribe anti inflams but the French don't like you to take them for more than about 10 days in a row so I have stock in case I need some the other 20 days in the month!! LOL

Interesting. Phenylephrine has replaced the pseudoephedrine that's in Nog's concoctions in lots of supermarket available concoctions for decongestion (in the UK). Apparently pseudoephedrine, being a bit if an amphetamine-alike, is open to abuse (+ it increases heart rate and puts up blood pressure).

Slight down-side....nobody* appears to think that phenylephrine works.

* in clinical studies as an orally delivered decongestant.

Apparently pseudoephedrine, being a bit if an amphetamine-alike, is open to abuse (+ it increases heart rate and puts up blood pressure).

Slight down-side....nobody* appears to think that phenylephrine works.

* in clinical studies as an orally delivered decongestant.

The Fronch stuff does seem to work - colds like the one that was starting usually cause runny face symptoms for about 5 days. It's pretty disgusting. These meds dried up my face in about 24 hours I still sound like I have cold, but at least I don't look disgusting!! LOL

Working out of the Manchester office today. One of my colleagues described me as 'an institution' as we had a catch up. Not sure if that's a compliment or an insult. . Out for dinner with friends in Stockport tonight, which I'm insisting on paying for as they've been so helpful whilst Gremlinette has been up here. Reassuring that they are close by, should she need anything.

Saturday - hopefully spend some time with Gremlinette. She dropped me to our friends last night and came in to say hello (mainly to their cats) and I have to say, she looks a million times better than when I last saw her. Her IBS diet seems to be making a world of difference and she seems to have her sparkle back. She did mention me coming on a big supermarket shop to ASDA, so that'll be something to look forward to.
Train back at 3-ish. Hopefully get home before our friends come round for dinner.

Thats really interesting as I dont normally bother witth them as I shake colds off quickly, but as I couldn't get rid of it I took them. When I went to the Docs there was concern as my BP was really high! It was so high (sys175) that i'm on a weeks monitoring and its gradually come down and down and of course i have stopped taking those tablets!

Thats really interesting as I dont normally bother witth them as I shake colds off quickly, but as I couldn't get rid of it I took them. When I went to the Docs there was concern as my BP was really high! It was so high (sys175) that i'm on a weeks monitoring and its gradually come down and down and of course i have stopped taking those tablets!

Yeah, phenylephrine is actually used to treat low blood pressure (hypotension) although ephedrine is used more frequently now...I assume pseudoephedrine works the same too.

Funny how we tend to think that, just 'cos you can buy stuff in the supermarket you don't worry as much about side effects as when the Doc prescribes things...well, that's how my brain works at any rate...

(I got interested in this topic when I couldn't buy my preferred anti-bunged-up cure any more. Turned out it had pseudoephedrine in it. I think it was called Mucron. Sudafed still has it in but they just try and stop people buying a lot in case they manufacture amphetamine with it.)

Friday: Son to work then celebrated at the School Eucharist, handed out awards as Governor and signed some school applications. Headed home to check on the work being done to the church flat roof. I cleared one of the drains out, totally blocked by leaves etc... The roofer found another hole and sealed it. Baptism meeting with a family, then headed off to do shopping. Had the boiler engineer around to do annual service on the system in my home, all sorted. Will have to try and get rid of airlock in the system that is causing my office radiator to stay cold. Am slowly recovering from a bad chest/head cold lurgy thing. Contacted someone about taking a funeral for her brother, he passed away at 63 yrs of age, so young. Have an 8pm meeting with a couple who want marriage counselling.

Saturday: Up to start preparing some food. Have three Persian (Iranian) friends coming over for dinner. Will being doing two shoulders of lamb with basmati rice and veggies. Simple is best. Pudding is ice cream. Spending the afternoon celebrating a couple's Ruby Wedding anniversary in my church hall, so will be busy there. Will fit in the cooking around that. Must open and put the nice wine out as well so it can breathe. Two of my guests spending the night, the other returns to the hotel where her refugee accommodation is. She is not allowed to stay overnight elsewhere.

Sunday: Two services and then a quiet afternoon I hope!

Friday, finished a night shift, was a quiet one, made even quieter by one of our jobs getting cancelled so managed some section Z of the Rule Book (fatigue management) . Slept a bit when I got home, took EBike to LBS for TLC after their cock up rebuilding the frame. Mowed lawn before alleged monsoon weekend. Walked dogs.

Sat & Sun, weather dodging dog walks, emptying spare room in prep for decorating it.

Rest of the weekend's going to be enjoyably dull. Godfather asked me to go with hi to look at a car, put it off until Monday as I'm seeing my brother.

Clear of bugs ATM, but son, who lives elsewhere, has a nasty dose of flu or covid. Going to a friend's to celebrate his 65th, and retirement, tonight. So I'll probably have both a hangover and a virus tomorrow.
