Your bike is stolen, what are you replacing it with?

Post by Taipan »

Hypothetical thread, if your bike got nicked would you just buy the same model again, or do you have a hankering for something different?

The only bike I've had nicked was the Puch.... and tbh i'm still hankering after a direct replacement...

If the Rocksters were taken: not sure tbh. I've got a lot of knowledge and maintenance experience on 1150 BMWs, but they're heavy beasts, so I may well look for something lighter, but probably of about the same vintage for ease of "at-home" maintenance.

It would definitely be a litre sports bike.
Not 100% sure which one though.

I'd probably buy another GS, it does the touring thing well and it fits me.

I'd probably buy another Gold Star too.

The GSXR1100N I would replace with an original 98 R1 if I could find a nice one.

The 500 Bullet has kind of been replaced by the Gold Star, so maybe one of them Voge 300 trail bikes

Hmmm. Tough one. In general I try not to get another of something on the basis that there are so many bikes in the world. But hard to see what I'd get that could match the GSXS's ability for the money. Possibly a GT version of mine or a Z1000 or CB1000R I guess but they are variations on a theme. Having said that I've seen multiple posts/video's of the later GSXS's having a horrendous rattle, something to do with an updated cam chain design. Even makes KTMs sound normal.

If the VFR was stolen, I'd almost certainly replace it with an SV650.
If the Falco was stolen I'd be gutted as so much time and money has been spent on it, no idea what I'd replace it with. Probably another Falco, but good ones are getting hard to find.
If the Duke 690 R was stolen, I'd find the best condition Duke 690 R I could and buy it.
If the LC was stolen I would hunt the thief(s) down and kill them, but probably not replace it.

If the Street Triple got stolen I'd replace it with a XSR900 in Gauloise blue with the nose cone.
If one of the SV650's got stolen I'd still have one left
If my XT600 got stolen I'd consider a Single cylinder aircooled Jap trail bike with electric start or for something newer a 411 Himalayan

Probably because I'm not twatting about modifying it, just using it. But none of the bikes have been used as much as I'd like this year, cos the weather's been so shite. It's still an absolute grin-fest when I do use it :D

If you weren't buying the same again, why do you keep them? If you want to replace what you have with something else, then you already don't want what you own.

Habit and familiarity and then an opportunity presents itself? Plus a lot of people absolutely hate the selling and buying process...

re: what Skub said.
I've had a bit of extra cash recently and thought about replacing my Speed Triple but I can't think of anything I'd rather have. The closest I've got to replacing it was a look at a Hypermotard, but I decided I didn't want it that much. So maybe getting the triple stolen would be the spur I need to get an impractical Ducati...
