Eurofighter vs F35 dogfight
NATO had a 'dogfight' scenario with these 2 bad boys, which tbf is pretty unrealistic as the F35s weapons advantage is BVR.

To save bringing Google search to a standstill while everyone searches for BVR....'Beyond Visual Range'.

Old Maverick would have had them both in a decommissioned F14 with no armaments.

The threat detection and countermeasures systems look ok on the Eurofighter.
Just had a quick read about the planned (Eurofighter replacement?) the New Generation Fighter. It's supposed to be able to deploy 'drone swarms'

Re: Eurofighter vs F35 dogfight
AFAIK nobody has actually tried 'drone swarms' yet. The US is working on unmanned 'buddy' aircraft, same plane but without a pilot using a mixture of AI and command linkage.Count Steer wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 8:32 amHe'd gan it up on the back wheel and have 'em on the brakes.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 8:08 am Old Maverick would have had them both in a decommissioned F14 with no armaments.

Re the unmanned 'buddy' aircraft, it was reported last week that the Russians had to shoot down (by the manned aircraft) an unmanned 'buddy' drone. They then put a missile into the crash site.

Re: Eurofighter vs F35 dogfight
Yup. The gist of it is there though. I gather, if it can get close enough to get into an actual dogfight, the Typhoon outmanouevres the F35...not surprising. It may have been part of the 1v1 exercise at Ramstein, they included Rafales, Hornets and all sorts.Nordboy wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 6:52 pmIt's behind a paywall for me?Sadlonelygit wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 7:56 am NATO had a 'dogfight' scenario with these 2 bad boys, which tbf is pretty unrealistic as the F35s weapons advantage is BVR.

Re: Eurofighter vs F35 dogfight
The Eurofighter scored a 'kill'. However, the German pilot admitted that had it been a real encounter, he'd have never got close close enough for that kill. The F35 isn't made for dogfights (the US has the F15/16/22's for that). If the F35 finds itself in a dogfight, something has gone drastically wrong.Sadlonelygit wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 7:56 am NATO had a 'dogfight' scenario with these 2 bad boys, which tbf is pretty unrealistic as the F35s weapons advantage is BVR.

If it's all about the size and number of guns, then I'll go for any version of the AC-130.

For making things go away at ground level, then yeah, not a sexy aircraft though, and a goat farmer in a biplane with a blunderbuss could probably take it out in a straight air fightKungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 10:02 am If it's all about the size and number of guns, then I'll go for any version of the AC-130.

Good point, I do always enjoy seeing the non tooled up variants when they give low fly bys over where I live, but even with a howitzer its no different from lipstick on a pig.

C. 7,700 Mozzies made
C. 42,000 IL2s
Not sure if there's any still flying. I know they dig them up from Russian bogs and lakes every once in while.
