Can't help but thing if Ms. Duffie was really genuine she'd have stood down and triggered a by-election rather than carrying on as an independent MP.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 3:05 pmYour good mate Tiepin posted this 4 pages and a week ago; please try and keep up
And his was on official yellow House of Commons paper and all...
I'm sure all her constituents voted for her and not the party she was formerly a member of though.

Ahh, possibly. I can still imagine John Cleese going radge with a paint scraper though, along with associated angry noises.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 3:07 pmIt was Fawlty Towers, a.k.a. Re: In todays news...
She was a Labour MP during the last Parliament and presumably was aware of Starmer's direction of travel - why didn't she stand down before the election and take her chances as an Independent then? Instead she resigned the Labour whip weeks into the new Parliament thereby maximising her earnings potential in this Parliament and giving herself plenty of time to convince her constituents to back her at the next election.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 3:17 pmCan't help but thing if Ms.

Eww. That's actually quite creepy, the idea of you fantasising about me. Best keep it to yourself I think.demographic wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 3:01 pm 'm enjoying this new satirical posting style where you focus peoples attention on Tory policies and their hypocrisy by taking and exaggerating the almost Pythonesque language. Spurred on by this satyr I clicked on this that popped up on my feed and it seems yer right, its proper comedy gold.
This guy covers James (not so) Cleverly complaining about his own policy and if you watch it for long enough even covers their next talking point.
The bloke is unashamedly a slight leftie which might trigger the far right but I'm sure you'll be fine.

The bit the other day when you pretended to be really angry about a bloke putting a Communist poster up was hilarious, I almost had visions of a John Cleese character getting angry, going out armed with a paint scraper and diligently scraping off every bit of paper from the local lamp posts and walls.
Was it A Fish Cled Wanda where John Cleese started braying a car with a branch? Somehow the image you created in my mind was a bit like that.
Well done, subtle but effective.
As for the commie guy, it was a very civilised discussion. I told him I didn't want that crap plastered all over the place and I would remove them having the same level of authority to take them down as he had for putting them up. He politely asked me not to, I politely replied he would have to stop me. He declined.
Had I been in less of a rush, I might have asked him to tell me which communist country he admired most.

"Each to their own" is not quite the same as saying someones home is a "wretched hive of scum and villainy".
It's funny and many a true word is spoken in jest but when such comments are incessantly parroted by those who don't live here, it can become tiresome.

I've lived and worked in other places too, some cities, some very much not cities Cities are great places if you're young and got money in your pocket, maybe not such great places to be retired in, unless you have a particular interest in the arts, music, food, architecture, sport and don't mind using an extensive public transport infrastructure.
Each to their own, as you say. There are some nice things about living the rural idyll too.

Re: In todays news...
Great news for people who have so little time for work given the amount of time they spend shoving food in their gobs.
Unemployed could get weight loss jabs to return to work
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cjd54zd0ezjo
Just throwing it out there: if they got off their big, gallumping arses and waddled to and from work a few days a week, maybe they wouldn't need a fucking expensive course of jabs to shift the pounds...
(I realise I'm probably not allowed to say this, but my open, diverse and inclusive approach to employing people doesn't extend to the morbidly obese. I figure they must be inherently lazy and stupid in equal measure, and thus I wouldn't want to work with them)

But there are also some that have health conditions.
Worse (in my view/experience!) is the mental health issues that make gaining weight easy and losing it F*cking Hard. But that's not an opinion that is generally welcome on here!!

Re: In todays news...
People can be obese for a number of reasons. Some are obese through food addiction, so saying get off your arse and exercise is as much use as telling an alki to just avoid pubs and offys. What about people who weight gain through conditions like heart disease, or rheumatoid arthritis, or any number of the physically debilitating conditions that restrict mobility and lead to weight gain, do they deserve your scorn too?gremlin wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 12:23 pm Great news for people who have so little time for work given the amount of time they spend shoving food in their gobs.

Re: In todays news...
My scorn is directed at the people who are grotesquely eating themselves to a state of perpetual illness and eventual death. There is no excuse for it. How hard is it to exercise a bit of self control, be it with calories or alcohol? Half the world is dying from starvation whilst the other half are dying from gluttony.
And what is the answer? We normalise it by being 'body proud' and decrying any criticism as 'body shaming'.
For the record, my last health check had me as being on the cusp of overweight, so I'm no six-packed, ripped Adonis, but if I got to the point where my weight needed managing through a magic injection rather than self discipline, I'd have to start questioning my life choices.
