I'd be really curious to see figures if anyone can get them to say 600+cc bikes sold this year compared to 5 years ago.
MCIA publish monthly sales figures. Someone in the trade should have access to them.

Interesting that you use 600 as a cut-off. That's indicative of how the market has changed.

But, since then, the training regime has become lengthy and costly (but not necessarily as effective as it might be). And has pushed up 'first bike's expectations, with manufacturers adjusting the range to suit.
Manufacturers have followed demand. Whether that was 600 & super sports bikes, or adventure bikes. How was that demand created, and are the results bikes that are unaffordable and - often difficult to ride on UK roads?
As someone said recently, use the bike you have to go on adventures.
