25-30 year ago me would have been queueing up to whack down a deposit at my local Yamaha dealers. Current me will have a sit on it at the NEC and probably find it a bit uncomfortable.

To be fair, take away the electronics and the stats are very similar to a 94 Fireblade.

Looks great & I bet it will be. A lot of people will never forgive it for not being an in-line 4 but then probably not very many of them have bought an R6 for some time.

25 years ago I bought an R1, I don't want another one or anything similar.

25 years ago I'd just got my licence and really wanted a Thundercat!!

But I do have a hankering for the R1 - probably cos a mate has a beautiful 50th anniversary version :D :D (But I'll probably get a different stoopid sports bike and save up for an MT10 which apparently has the R1 engine!!)

I don't know why, but it's doing nothing for me. 🤔 I've got the MT09. MY21 Great on road, enough on track for me, rack and luggage when needed, a nice balance.

The R9 is aiming as a road and track bike, ye be fun on track, but not the fastest and on the road would probably only encourage silliness and our roads are no longer silly safe.

It looks nice enough but the price tag is too high, just to have elderly green machines come flying passed you at Donnington Park. I'd like to sit on one, a bit of a forward lean is good for my back. But for now I'm out.

I passed my test in 1985 and bought a 250LC, I spent the next two years turning it into a worthless wreck, never has a bike been so abused, crashed several times, thrashed, seized, raced, toured on, badly repainted twice, and trail ridden.

My 250LC suffered a similar fate,crashed a few times,rode home on one cylinder with a holed piston,raced & crashed,toured,badly painted twice,rebuilt a few times.No doubt many others suffered a similar fate..

They're both liquid cooled.

I'm sold.

P.s. "discontinued" vs "not yet available"

I wonder what power the CP3 makes in race tune. I know the tuning is limited in that class, but I bet it's still a good 140bhp?

Race tuned sounds good, but reliability goes down the pan.

Tell that to all the race tuned 765s. It's not 1987 it's 2024, things can be made faster now without imploding every 5 miles.

I'd assume the race one doesn't meet emission and drive by noise regs, that'd account for a big chunk of power.

"Race tune" probably doesn't even mess with the internals?
