Have they ruined Ebay ??
Have Ebay got greedy and ruined themselves?
I listed 4 items in the last few weeks with 99p start.
A Snap-on model Truck. £20 all day long, sometimes up to £50
A Snap-On checkers set. again, expected £20 easy
A model Car. Meh, can go either way £15 would be fine
Ebay kept trying to get me to pay to promote my items, but I didn't.
The truck hit £6 !
The checkers set didn't even get one bid
The model car sold to a guy in France for £12
Is ebay 'hiding' the items that aren't being 'promoted' ??

No idea chap, but with my curiosity piqued by the notion of a snap on toy truck I went searching.
I reckon some people on here might like this.

Re: Have they ruined Ebay ??
I gave up selling on eBay when they fanny arsed about postage and increased fees etc.
I think that was maybe 10 years ago.
Still buy from there

Used it back in the day when it had more interesting, and good value, secondhand stuff. These days it's just yet another professional marketplace and you get way more protection as a buyer using the likes of Amazon so why bother.?

Yeah if you filter to 'used' to knocks like 80% of the hits off
It's crap for new stuff IMO. Sure there's plenty on there, but it's all proper Chinese garbage and shit LED headlight conversions.

VR46 racing team is sponsored by Ebay so they must be trying to spread the word.
But, I hate the Amazon app and search engine with a vengeance.
Never bought from there coz it never finds just what a want.

I have used Air BNB a lot in the past - and will be doing so in San Sebastian in a weeks time. However in Berlin and Copenhagen it was significantly more expensive to use Air BnB, with less facitilies and flexibility than hotels.Count Steer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 8:22 am ebay, another classic case of....

In Sam Sebastian, hotels are bleeding expensive !
Re: Have they ruined Ebay ??
Ebay is becoming unfathomable in many respects. The search engine seems to get things very wrong if you allow it to make choices by category. For example when I searched for a monitor recently using its pre-defined size range it completely missed the very common 21.5 inch screen size in the results. For buying or selling bikes there seem to be more sharks around and bid but don't pay is rife. Items described as new when they are not is another common practice. In fact "if it sounds too good to be true it usually is" or at least often is!

Re: Have they ruined Ebay ??
Ebay has this habit of inserting itself into a process that previously worked well enough, making it more expensive and making everything take twice as long as previously. I bought a cheap £10.95 item off UK Ebay on Friday 27th September and because I wanted it delivered to France, was forced into the clutches of their 'Global Shipping Program'. The item left Stoke on Trent on Friday, arrived at the Ebay shipping Centre in Lichfield on Monday 30th September then spent the next four days going through various processes (WTF is a First and Second Dimension Event?) before finally being sent out on Friday 4th.
There has still been no communication as to when I might reasonably expect to receive the part, apart from 'on or before Monday 14th October'. For this glacial level of progress I was charged £14.24.
If I can deal direct with a retailer and not use Ebay or Amazon, I absolutely will.

Re: Have they ruined Ebay ??
I gave using them a few years back for selling after sold an item and ended up with a dispute raised against me for non-delivery. I had sent signed-for and despite providing proof of signature from the recipient, they still judged against me and took my money back!
Only ever buy on there now, would rather give away or dump stuff.....

Ha, I found the total opposite and ended up renting a little flat in Copenhagen for way less than a hotel with the same number of beds.
I suspect single traveller vs. family with small children makes a massive difference though.

Yeah I've had that too. Plus it gives wanky "I've been delivered" messages when it's finished crawling it's way aroud the UK and reaches the GSP HQ, like I care. Slow and pricey.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 11:19 am ... was forced into the clutches of their 'Global Shipping Program'. ...

I still like selling vehicles from there as you can at least get some idea of what the buyer is like and they should be traceable unlike dishing out your address to anonymous types on autotrader.

I just buy schitt off the bay,I haven't sold stuff for yonks. Anything I need to move is either given away or the odd time advertised on the local FacePlant group.
I think it's become a bit of a ballache for sellers.

Re: Have they ruined Ebay ??
About once a month i get 80% percent off final selling fees. So if i want to sell anything i just wait for the next offer and list. I have sold a few bits of expensive machinery and been charged next to nothing. Sold a Ford Cosworth rocker cover recently for £400, i don't know were i would have achieved that price anywhere else. Buy loads of small parts on EBay , very rarely have a problem .
