Not suggesting it does, just anticipating an increase in wanna be policeman camera warriorsMr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 3:55 pmLaw 101 though. Someone else doing something illegal (or even dubious) doesn't give you the right to act illegally. Soz

Re: R9 all but announced
I assume that none of the 150k fines (ker-bloody-c£ing!) were for speeding given the rigour that police speedos/Vascar thingies are regularly calibrated with?
I do feel that the footage they've released is supposed to make us feel that 'citizen camera law' is 'a good thing'. A bit like every time the authorities want to monitor our Internet usage they trot out 'paedophiles/dark web/criminal activity etc' to keep us all comfortable with more monitoring.

Even the latest cameras aren't that good!

No, he was sent the footageIan wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 2:30 pmDid he get to see the footage or is it like some other cases where you only see the footage if you go to court but you pay less if you pay up without any challenge?v8-powered wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 12:44 pm
Bloke at work has just been nicked under this scheme, snitches submitting their dashcam footage. He's now 3 points and fine worse off.....

Re: R9 all but announced
If I submitted a dodgy driver from my phone, there is absolutely no proof what day it was on.
Don't they need the date to convict?

The tens of thousands of fines they've already issued would suggest they don't.

Re: R9 all but announced
This just made me realise that I have no idea if there is an equivalent to EXIF date for video files - is there?

Yep.
When you submit video evidence they ask for the raw unedited, uncompressed footage to minimise the chance for shenanigans.

Re: R9 all but announced
Got it - but do the files contain metadata such as capture date, location co-ordinates?

Re: R9 all but announced
Sounds obvious, but it'll depend on the camera!
The OEM one in my car has date, time, GPS coordinates and speed rolling constantly across the bottom of the footage. It's "on top" of the picture, not a black bar at the bottom, so if you tried to edit it it would be obvious. The metadata also says what resolution the footage is, so if you hacked off the bottom 40 pixels or whatever it'd be really easy to tell.

Re: R9 all but announced
I can change the date on my phone, then all photos and videos have the new date stamp.

IIRC, you can't just upload a few seconds of drama. They want to see what led to it.

Re: R9 all but announced
That's your phone, dashcams work differently, sure you can alter the date, which would probably make the evidence inadmissible, but most dashcams have GPS enabled by default, so they're receiving a pretty accurate date / time stamp 24/7 when they're on.

Just read the spec. 14 litre fuel tank I guess they are expecting people to need to rest their arthritic wrists by then
