David Alonso is World Moto3 Champion

Post by mangocrazy »

David Alonso became the first racer of Colombian descent to become a motorcycle World Champion when he won the Motegi Moto3 race today. He's amassed 321 points so far, winning ten out of the sixteen races to date and in doing so equals Fausto Gresini, Marc Marquez and Joan Mir with ten wins in a season and with four rounds remaining has the chance to equal or better the best lightweight win record of all time - the eleven of Valentino Rossi.

In my view he's a generational talent and the sky's the limit to what he can achieve in future.

More on David Alonso's chance of equalling/beating Vale's record. However Valentino won eleven out of the 15 races in the 1997 season, whereas Alonso has already competed in 16 races for his tally of 10 wins.

It also seems like Neil Hodgson is a bit of a fan...

Thanks for spoiling it for all of us who hadn't seen the race.

Would it have hurt to wait?

Oh come on - it's a bike forum, people post stuff about bikes when it happens. You gotta know that the info will be here? Ok, could have put the actual info in the body and not the title, but surely it's a risk you take online?

It's a bike forum, this section is called 'Trackdays, Racing, Motorsport. It's what the section is about. If you don't want to know the result, avert your gaze. Besides, David Alonso winning a Moto3 race is hardly a surprise, now is it?

Not sure he even needed to win did he?

He had to have at least 100 points advantage over his nearest challenger, In the end I think he had 112 :) It would have been more of a surprise if he didn't win...

Yeah, about five hours after the race finished. If you're so upset about it have a word with weeksy and see what the 'law' is on this. I'll be very surprised if there's any kind of embargo.

Nogs and Yorick have good point about putting info in
thread titles though. It's hard to imagine anyone hooked into bike racing forums would have missed it but, like with the TdF, it's as well not to declare 'Xyz Wins! in a thread title given the time slippage that the Internet and TV allow + people living in different time zones etc.

That's the gist of it. There was a situation, it's been discussed and hopefully people will think a little more next time.
It's not right, it's not wrong, it's just well, happened.

We can't go back in time and make it better, so we move on.
