Kemi's clearly looking back to the 'good old days' when she wasn't even born. Early 70s in fact. Maternity pay was introduced in 1975 by a Labour government.

Yeah, and free contraception was introduced in 1974 when the Family Planning service was started. That should have reduced maternity pay.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one.

She claims to have resigned because of the winter fuel payment being lessened for so.e people and ending the two child benefit cap, which is strange cos she wasnt so bothered that she felt like voting on those issues.
Yeah, principles eh?
Methinks there's another reason she's not .entioned.

They might have withdrawn the whip if she'd voted against the government, then she wouldn't be able to represent Labour.
Oh...wait a sec....
I think she's playing the long game, has ambitions and knows the current leadership aren't going to be around long.

The govt has a working majority 0f 166, meaning that at least 83 Labour MPs would need to vote against the govt to trigger any kind of no-confidence vote. Do you really think this is likely? I'd say the current leadership will be in place until the next time Parliament is dissolved. Starmer has a bigger majority than even Blair achieved.

This is doing the rounds in right wing circles that Starmer will be out by the end of the week, the only thing that changes is the reason, sometimes it's freezing grannies, then it was because he's gay and now it's because he has an illicit lovechild lol.
You knew the right wing press (i.e. nearly all of them) would be in a frenzy trying to discredit Starmer et al by any means possible. It was just so predictable.

Funny that they weren't bothered, "it doesn't matter", "let him get on with the job" when it was Boris. Numerous lovechilders. "Picaninies". "Post-box" muslims. All that jazz.
Tis the ying/yang of politics for sure, but there is many a Labour voter and trade union beyond angry at the winter fuel issue and they are bigger critics than the Tories!

That's what I was thinking of more than speculation on X. The hypocracy of him, Rayner and Reeves is clear. They have been receiving gifts that any private company would call bribery, both for the person on the receiving and and those donating to politically exposed persons.
