I actually quite like the idea of a 'modestly' powered homage to old Brit iron, but with modern reliability, brakes etc. It will sound lovely and will be a brilliant bimbling machine. The only thing that puts me off as I stumble into my dotage is the weight.

200kgs for a single cylinder bike is just bonkers. it should be 20-30kgs lighter.

On the move it's light as a feather.

In fact the steering is so light I thought the head races were loose.

Pushing it around the weight is pretty manageable, but then my main bike is an R1200GS.

The cat, the header tank and the ABS pump all sit below the engine (it's dry sump), so the weight is all low down.

140 miles on the clock after today's ride.

Decided to rev it a teeny bit more after 70 miles, I'm now occasionally taking it up to 4krpm which is 60mph in top.

I keep going for 6th, it's only got 5 speeds.

Starting to get a feeling for the tyres, almost got rid of the chicken strips.

The suspension is getting better, but it's still crap.

I really like it. It's like my Bullet, but with a bit more go and brakes that work.

I was wondering if, like with cars in some European countries, you have to carry one so they'll start putting them on bikes for sale across a broad market? Always carried one on bikes (and in cars and rucsacs ) anyway.

The tool kit on the Gold Star is ok, but there's no c-spanner for the shocks... however you can adjust the preload by hand if needed and the bag has a little pocket on the front full of spare fuses.

Another 60 miles of running in this afternoon. 202 on the clock now, 1/3 of the way to the first service!

Suspension is deffo feeling better (but still a bit crude), I'm not sure if this is because it's all loosening up a bit or I'm just getting used to it.

It cut out a few times today, as you come to a stop pull the clutch in and the engine just stops. The first batch of bikes did this a lot and got a remap at first service to try and fix it, mine should already have the fix. It did only start doing it when the fuel level was low, dunno if it's related. If its still doing it at the first service they can have a stab at fixing it under warranty.

I decided to top the tank off ready for the next ride just before I got home. I removed the fuel cap and it slipped out of my cold fingers, all of about 4 inches on to the tank... leaving three primer deep chips in the paint :(

I guess I've found another area where they saved a few quid... super thin paint.

That's a bit of a bugger with the tank. I'd ring up about the cutting out, find out if it does solve it. Get it in and done. 👍

I told myself I wouldn't buy any bolt on tat until after the first service, but I do like to know how long I've been out so I don't annoy the wife and it was only £6 delivered.

I've also got some Highland Green touchup paint from RS Paints (the official BSA supplier), I've just filled the chips in using a cocktail stick (rather than the to large brush in the bottle).

I'll give it another coat then see if I can find my cutting compound to flatten it out before applying the lacquer and then polishing up.

If it looks shit I'll get the tank off when it gets too cold to ride and get it sent to a proper paint shop.

Those little touch up pots from RS are very spendy for what you get. The H1B has a 3 stage paint,so you need 2 pots of paint and one of lacquer. 50 odd quid to you sir... :shock:

Careful when washing, might not be waterproof. Mine wasn't and got binned. Got me a temu digital stick on jobby.

My Rotax 650 also had 5 gears, and no positive stop at either end. Also a really long travel on the gear pedal, since it was a direct lever without linkage. That wasn't the final nail, but it was one of them.

That's mad that the side panels aren't even screwed on.

Which is taking some getting too, I need another 400 miles, but the weather has been shocking the last couple of weekends.
