I've seen Netherlanders do that too. And of course I follow their example when in their own country.

When i was German based, being paid in Euros , a day in Germany away from the office was 19.00 euro ( this was 2012-13) and governed by German tax rules. That was to cover subsutance stuff
In Turkey , I got 39.00 euro per day. Breakfast in the hotel was 25.00 euros. Hence you steal the bread rolls

I was briefly contracting in Copenhagen. Piles of pastries first thing to chomp your way through, and then at 11a:m they all legged it to the company canteen for a long lunch ....

Accommodation and transport was covered separately (typically arranged direct by AmEx) and then the £45 was everything/anything else. They always booked hotels with breakfast included. So it was usually a £5 lunch and a £40 pub dinner Or in my case as cash strapped Grad, two £5 meals and £35 profit.

Current place is "don't take the piss" which generally means a half decent dinner and maybe 2 rounds of drinks.

Cold meats and cheese, little breads, hard boiled eggs, random yoghurt which never seems like it fits with teh other things.

There's always a Fry Up Buffet™ for the brits too.

There's usually those small rashers of what looks a bit like bacon, I usually cram a few into a crusty roll to make a piss poor bacon butty.

There's one place/supplier I've visited in southern Germany a few times which has a little bakery just around the corner. They always get Pretzels / Brezels in for brekkie. Now that's a great German food You just don't get good ones in the UK.
