For those who were asking about filtering in France

Post by The Spin Doctor »

It's illegal... but here are the 21 departments where there is a lane-splitting trial happening.

https://www.connexionfrance.com/news/tr ... nce/678648

There are limitations:

Filtering can only happen between lanes on motorways and dual carriageways with multiple lanes that have a speed limit of 70km/h or more. Under the trial, the speed of the motorbike must not be 30km/h faster than the cars it is passing, and the maximum speed for a motorcycle filtering between lanes is 50km/h. And the motorcycle must only travel between the furthest-left lanes on the road - effective next to the outside lane.

The trial has just been extended to Dec 31, after which a report will be submitted. They should have enough data - the trials started back in 2016!

Where is riding between lanes permitted in France? The departments taking part in the lane splitting trial are:

Bouches-du-Rhône

Haute-Garonne

Gironde

Hérault

Isère

Loire-Atlantique

Nord

Rhône

Var

Alpes-Maritimes

Drôme

Vaucluse

Pyrénées-Orientales

Paris

Hauts-de-Seine

Seine-Saint-Denis

Val-de-Marne

Seine-et-Marne

Yvelines

l’Essonne

Val-d’Oise

Hope that clears up some of the confusion.

On the Paris peripherique, filtering is a national sport.

I'm sure I saw a few posts about the trial in Isère being over - but the chances are it was scaremongering or they've changed their minds!!

They have some signs up on the Bordeaux ring road. It seems like sensible advice but tbh I don't really go that many places where filtering is necessary. (Always the bloody Bordeaux ring road!)
