Holding out on the heating.... yes or no..

Well it's getting chillier as the days pass, although i think it's warming slightly again after tomorrow.

Have you put it on yet ? Or hanging on a bit longer ?

We're still not sticking the heat on yet, but we'll see if it lasts until Oct.

A bit of a nip this morning, so the heating is on for an hour to run it up and see if there are any problems before it gets cold cold.

I was nagged last night to get the winter duvet down from the loft, but it's far too early for that.

Well I'm about 4/500 miles South but it's definitely nippier, and I have been out to buy some winter fuel for the stove. On the plus side, that fuel price (stove pellets) has dropped by nearly half from this time last year.
I reckon it'll be on at least part time by end of Sept, which is probably slightly earlier than normal.

It's on with minimum temps set. So if it gets cold it'll come on. I work enough to at least be comfortable in my own home and I dislike being cold. Never understood people that sit in their own homes in heavy clothing rather than put the heating on!

Yeah, I've got a minimum temperature set and it's reached that in the past few days, so the heating has popped on for a bit.

The woodburners haven't been lit yet,though the resident cold person has mentioned it,but radiators have been on in the morning and at night for a couple of weeks now. It's 8° here this morning.

At this time of year the temperatures are up and down like a whore's knickers anyway. There can be sunny warm days on the bike in October.

Out of necessity maybe? There'll be a few more in that trap this Winter after two tier Sir Keir took away their heating money.

I have a big, drafty, poorly insulated house. The 'central heating' is a cumbersome beast and takes ages to even take the edge off. I can't justify having it on frequently, growling away shooting heat up into the sky. It makes far more sense for me to wrap up a bit during the day, and then retire in front of the stove in the evening.

Yep same here. Quick test plus is was deffo chilly.

It was lovely during the summer in this old pile which remains cold in the hottest of heatwaves. Gonna pay for that during the long cold winters.

My place is 1930s and has solid walls. The biggest heat loss is through the loft as the insulation up there has lost its efficiency and is powdery, crushable old fibreglass. But, to replace it means clearing the loft-of-plenty and that must never happen...

Woke up to 6 degrees in Lake Bala, safe to say the heating went on in the caravan! That said it’s cost nothing as I used the electric warm air heating instead of the gas. Took all of 15 minutes to get too warm!
The house is getting air source heating when Octopus pull their tentacles out, should massively reduce the cost as my place has an electric boiler, the most expensive form of heating known to man!!

Well, not that new (2005) but reasonably modern and with new windows and a bunch of extra loft insulation.

We've been having to keep the windows and curtains shut to keep temperatures down until recently, only opening the windows in the afternoon/evening. It's deffo chillier today though, but the bright sunshine coming through the (closed) windows worked a treat.

I don't get the choice, the building heating comes on when the winter season starts.

And I had a small oil filled radiator that I left in the office for spring - went to get it back as autumn feels cold but it's disappeared - so I won't be putting that on
