A Slap on the Wrist?

Post by Whysub »

Teenager tries to evade police on his bike in May this year. Found guilty of, amongst other things of running red lights, doing 70mph on a 20 mph limit, riding at 180mph on the motorway, then rides the wrong way up the motorway on the hard shoulder.
Bike not stolen, but on false plates, and rider has no licence or insurance.

The police see the prosecution as a deterrent to others. Personally I would wait until when he is sentenced in January to see what the Judge give him.

So it wasn't nicked.

The rider didn't have the appropriate license or insurance.

Where does a 19 year old legally get a bike that does 180mph?

It could have been his dads, but then he' still get done with TWOC or else his dad would be in the shit too?

Was it an R1/GSX-R/ Fireblade with a registration from a 125 stuck on it?

Buys one?

Most sellers will look for the right money, rather than a birth certificate. ;)

I was 19 when I bought a Z1,which didn't do anywhere close to 180,but it was the fastest thing out there at the time. Biking had lots of young folk back then,or it seemed that way.

Just after I passed my test at 17 on a 50cc Honda, i went and bought my first bike, a Gold Wing

The Norwich Union Rider Policy meant insurance wasnt too expensive. I can't imagine what it would cost a 17 (or even 19) year old today.

I bought a brand new R6 when I was 21. It cost me £800 to insure (in 1999).

I only managed an indicated 166mph tho'.

Yeah! I managed to misbehave badly enough to have my premium loaded by 400% and it was still affordable for an engineering apprentice.

4 months inside and a 2 or 3 year ban for a license he doesnt already have would be my guess

Bought the bike, couldnt be arsed/afford taking licenses and swapped the plate for a similar bike he thought was legal to avoid any ANPR issues but drew attention to himself by wearing a grey tracksuit of invicibility, trainers, puffa jacket and a man bag on a sports bike while riding like a twat

(ps i havent seen the footage, just describing the usual yoof riding apparel of the day for peds and 125's)

You can buy and ride a 180mph bike perfectly legally at 19....well except the 180mph aspect of it :D

Insurance is dead cheap if you don't bother getting any!

Here in Malta you can not buy a bike, new or used, without paying for the insurance first. They simply won't put the plates in your name. While that doesn't guarantee you will renew the policy, it would stop a case like this from happening.

You also can't sorn or sell your bike unless you pay any outstanding parking fines, speeding tickets, and road tax first.

Surprisingly good thinking from a small country, IMHO.

How many of you, when selling a bike privately, have asked to see the buyer's licence and insurance?

Dealers are a bit different, if nothing else you can't tax without SOMEONE buying insurance.

No grey tracksuit, just shorts and a t-shirt.
